It's a great place to stay is it's just a touch off-Strip yet in easy reach. It doesn't have a casino, so is a bit of an oasis bit you can be in Aria, Bellagio or Cosmo casino in moments. Wespend a fair bit of time in the room relaxing, and it does feel a luxurious place.
Thanks to you and Londondreamer for the suggestion - will have a look at. Since posting yesterday I've realised I'm a bit bored (and cold) so am now thinking of booking something later this month/next month, so presumably the pool is out. Do many of the hotels have decent indoor pools?
EDIT - Had a look and looks great. One important point I forgot to mention before though (sorry!) - I'm a smoker so need a hotel that accepts smokers.0 -
we think Cosmo is probably the best value for money (and we would probably never have stayed there if it wasn't for this forum)...in our opinion...though we have never used either of the pools or the gym so cannot comment on that side...comparing it to other places we've stayed in the same sort of price-range (Wynn, Encore, Bellagio, Caesars) at least...we haven't stayed at Venetian or Palazzo though.
It's a difficult question without a budget though...best value for money for $xx budget might be easier....though will still be down to personal preference on a number of points.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

Also I agree that this thread is absolutely fabulous, has a huge amount of info and a lot of detail specifically for folks coming from the UK and all you fine folks who post here and keep us all up-to-date ...but it can never cover everything...and since Vegas is always changing and one person's trip may be vastly different to another person's trip there's plenty of possibility of new things cropping up that might take awhile to filter back here.
There are tons of things posted here that people first read about on other forums - there's so much info out there, so for those who like to research and plan other forums are an excellent resource.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

Thanks for that - I think it might fall foul of the same as above though, I forgot to mention I'm a smoker so need a smoking room/hotel. With regards budget, I've been looking on Expedia to get an impression of the combined costs and, compared to Manhattan hotel prices nothing looks that unreasonable! I suppose I would be looking at a max of about £200 a night once resort fee and taxes are added, although perfectly happy to pay less providing it is a decent standard. I'm not the cheap but cheerful type.0 -

so am I...and if you get a room with a terrace you can smoke outside on the terrace which is excellent...though my hubby doesn't smoke and we never get a smoking room...so Cosmo is, for me, a fabulous bonus as I can pop out on the terrace and not have to go down to the casino like I normally would.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

Excellent point thanks - hadn't considered balcony/terrace.0 -

I hadn't thought of the smoking aspect. To me, a non-smoking hotel is a huge bonus as I hate the smell.
Cosmo is non-smoking in the rooms, but most (I think all except the cheapest) rooms have balconies which I am pretty sure permit smoking. I don't smoke myself, so can't say I've looked into this too much - just read reviews mentioning ashtrays being provided on the balconies. Parts of the public areas definitely permit smoking from memory, although we didn't spend too much time on the floor there as we prefer the Bellagio casino.
I am actually very tempted by the Terrace Suite at the Cosmo for our next trip. The only thing that makes me lean towards returning to Vdara is that Cosmo has a bit of a party hotel reputation. I ironically go to Vegas to unwind rather than party, so it puts me off staying there.
ETA: Just noticed you'd already gotten your answer.0 -
I once checked into the Riviera on a priceline stupid cheap name your own price basic room and was informed they were upgrading me. I asked if the room was still a smoking room and was informed no it wasn't but to pinch an ashtray from the casino on my way up and I was welcome to smoke on my one bedroom suite's balcony LOL

There's a younger vibe in Cosmo than some others but the only place that's more of a 'party' than anywhere else in Vegas is the Boulevard Pool when it's busy (and Marquee of course). Depending on seasonal opening the smaller Bamboo pool is excellent and usually much quieter.
I have noticed prices for Cosmo being significantly more this year than last for roughly the same dates but this might just be my searching, for what would have been our 'Cosmo nights' we've gone for Vdara on a cheap room deal including free show tickets.0
