why would you check out that thread ?
when there is a thread/message board here with Brits who goto Vegas, know there stuff, document it as per trip reports and the main part on page 1 by secretmachines.......

Recommend you read page 1, then make up your own mind what to do :):)
but out there, think you find you don't have enough time to do what you want!

    Here's the thread http://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101395

I've found the forums on Vegas message Board and Tripadvisor to be a huge source of info and ideas. I have a few threads saved in my bookmarks for suggestions for next trip from unique place to eat and shop to areas to explore that I haven't yet heard of.

    Hi everyone

We're off to LV in May for 10 nights as OH is on a conference. We are staying at Caesars Palace. As I've never been I have no clue what to expect. Can you please give some suggestions of stuff I will be able to do to amuse myself during the day whilst OH is doing his conference stuff. Would really appreciate any suggestions

    Thanks

I can recommend the Qua spa at Ceasers Palace. I've never been to a spa before but I still think about how relaxing this spa was.

There's gambling, people watching, exploring, wandering through the amazing casinos alongside about one million other things there is to do.

Do you like shows? Relaxing by a pool, fine wine and dining? There are an absolute multitude of different experiences to be had.

  • I'm looking for good value for money, but also looking for a good hotel with good rooms as I will be spending some time in it. Will also need hotel with decent facilities as I will be wanting to use the pool, gym etc. regularly. Not all that concerned about the casino as I will be spending time walking around to other places etc.
Any advice on hotels/resorts to investigate would be welcome. Thanks.

I'm biased as we always stay there, but I don't think Vdara can be beaten much for value for money - all rooms are suites, the hotel is smaller but has a great atmosphere and facilities. It's a great place to stay is it's just a touch off-Strip yet in easy reach. It doesn't have a casino, so is a bit of an oasis bit you can be in Aria, Bellagio or Cosmo casino in moments. Wespend a fair bit of time in the room relaxing, and it does feel a luxurious place.

Re Metro bank debit card to start charging

I know some on here use the Metro Bank Card.

so annoying...I looove Metro Bank...best bank ever...this makes me hugely sad though as our account with them is our holiday account...it replaced the Nationwide account we used to have before they changed their charges.

Real shame...will keep the account if nothing else for their coin counting machine and to occasionally pop in at odd hours and see what a bank can be.

Very glad now we also have a Santander Zero account which I know is no longer available for new applications...it was nice for awhile to have two accounts we knew wouldn't attract any fees. I have a thing about cash advancing a credit card. I know you can avoid most interest by paying it off when you get home...I just have a thing about withdrawing cash on a credit card...the logical side of me says I'm an adult now and it's OK to relax my never ever except an emergency rule...but I still prefer not to do it. :)

will you have a car or would you consider renting one or is that out of the question? Having a car would open up a lot of options...not to say you would need them as there is quite a lot to do on or around the strip or reasonably accessible by public transport.

As there are so many options, it would be good to know what sort of things you enjoy as duchy suggests...and maybe anything you really don't like.

Whilst this thread is fantastic for UK perspective on Vegas. Vegasmessageboard is a whole forum purely dedicated to all things Vegas. There are so many sub-sections for really specific aspects of Vegas.

I find using both to be a great help. Also you'd be surprised how many Brits are on Vegasmessageboard!

Agree with this. I'm tempted to try a new hotel on our next visit, but have a feeling we'll be back at Vdara for this reason. It was originally built to be condos (flats) and later turned into a hotel so they feel more like small homes. Love having the kitchen for storing/heating leftovers and stocking up on cheap drinks and snacks. We ate well but very cheaply by using a mix of this. Usually had a big lunch and brought the leftovers back for dinner, saved paying dinner prices anywhere. But would then often sneak off to Jean Philippe (prefer the Aria one) for a cheeky pudding. :)

We stayed in a Vdara suite. This is the second cheapest room type but I feel it's the best value for money as the more expensive ones don't offer that much more in terms of layout - they're mainly just guaranteed higher floors and more windows. We were on the 46th floor with a Bellagio fountain view anyway (room 4610) so certainly weren't missing out on that front.

On the downside, I always travel in winter so it's a non-issue for me, but I've read reviews that the pool is a bit rubbish. Not much food in the hotel itself (although there is a Starbucks now - wasn't one when we last visited) but as mentioned, several big casinos are just minutes away so plenty of options there.
