Mrs moneypenny - yours is a lovely stocking, a proper heirloom piece to treasure. How will you store it between seasons ?

    :D
thank you everyone for the really kind comments, this was a kit i bought really cheaply at a carboot - it was something silly like £1 i cant remember exactly now.
it was supposed to be for a friend for christmas just gone but wasnt finished in time DH now says i cant possibly give it away as its got too much of my time involved in it and he quite likes seeing it around. not sure exactly how ill store it, i did think yesterday when i took it upstairs i cant really fold it now or it will crease the figures. ill perhaps wrap it in tissue and find a couple of big sheets of card to make a folder type envelope for it

Ailsb, i love your Henry, that is my fave period of history i think (philippa gregory book fan here) cant wait to see his wives appearing along side him.

  • Ailsb your Henry looks great - looking forward also to seeing his lovely wives!

Mrs MP your stocking is so beautiful as to put mine to shame! Mine have been stored away upstairs with the rest of the Christmas decs wrapped up in bubble wrap. Have you thought about bubble wrap to help protect yours? I always have massive hoards of this as do like to have an eBay clear out every now and again!

thank you Tashatutuw great suggestion. Please dont put your work down im sure your stocking is beautiful. Sorry i cant recall the photo so dont want to look stupid by saying its gorgeous if you havent posted one:o
in my 'BC' life (before children) i was trained as an overlocker and went on to be a sample machinist, so i know my way round a sewing machine a lovely lady called Kath made sure of that - as a trainee i spent 2 weeks following lines on sheets of paper which she used to hold up to the light to make sure your needle holes followed the printed line exactly, only then were you actually trusted with a reel of cotton and allowed to thread the machine! my needlework teacher (Mrs Hodby) was equally thorough. we were actually taught embroidery at school and she used to bring some of the most amazing pieces of work in to show us. praise off her was praise indeed we all strived have her hold a piece we had done in class up to show how neat or precise it was. but she could equally cut to the quick if she thought you werent giving her or your work you best effort. :o
when making something and being tempted to cut a corner i am often stopped by thoughts of Mrs Hodby or Kath standing over me tutting.

    Why is the word "l o v e" being replaced by !!!!! ?
Is it happening for anyone else or have I just gone mad?

weve just been 'talking' about this on the cross stitch cafe, it seems l.o.v.e now really is considered by mse to be a four letter word.
cant understand why but it suddenly looks like weve all got tourettes when you back read and see all the !!!!'s

Unfortunately, I have never been shown properly how to use a machine and hand stitch most things. My Mother however grew up in Africa and the Nuns there (evil Nuns) used to act in a similarly precise fashion but if you didn't get it right you got the ruler (or whatever came to hand) to this day, no matter how long its been inbetween, my Mother can sew a straight line on a sewing machine without thinking about it!

I wondered about the l.o.v.e thing - just changed one of my posts as didn't want FoS to think I was swearing at her cross stitch :rotfl:

Snap - machinist here who did the paper training! I was a flat machinist - never got the hang of overlocking.
I do have an industrial machine and a home type overlocker plus my other sewing machines.

I've decided on 4 of mine, they may take a while though.

    1. 100 granny squares 25/100
    2. 100 hats (mainly preemie and newborn but will try to do some bigger ones as well) 30/100
    3. Blanket for friend in a home
    4. Something for Christmas, either tree decorations or ornaments.
