I do this because I am not having them say we are mean.
I usually give a present plus a large amount of cash because that is what they ask for. In fact sometimes I have even spent more on her than my own two because my own two do not care a jot about money/presents etc.
Why do you care so much about what they think?0 -
What a nasty mean-spirited post! Personally, I'd rather a relative bought me nothing at all rather than spent even a penny, let alone £150 on gifts that were given so grudgingly.
Relax.
It's a wind up.

Taking this on face value, niece sounds an arse, OP doesn't sound much better. Entire post is about money money money. My kids this, their kids that, private school blah blah, £150 blah blah, bigger house etc. etc.
Whole family sounds utterly obsessed with money and status and outdoing in each other."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Please don't lay the fact she is spiteful and aggressive on the fact she is an only child. It's the way she's been brought up, not with whom she has.Married the lovely Mr P 28th April 2012. Little P born 29th Jan 20140

I think you should spend £200 on her next year and sponsor some donkeys.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
It's up to you how you spend your money. I wouldn't have a 14 year old dictating how I spend my money.0

sounds to me like whatever you do its never going to 'please' them. they are so jealous of you its almost pathological.
btw, you spending so much on the spoiled brat is only ever going to feed their jealousy.
just tell them that you feel spending on Christmas has gone out of control in recent years and that you feel its time to cut back. end of!
They are going to diss you anyway - so why spend more than you feel comfortable with?0 -
I must admit I'd be pretty miffed if a relative spent £150 on my children ... that would usually be more than Santa was spending, how rude to eclipse their other gifts in such a way52% tight0
