How very ungrateful, if she is immature enough to get upset over a card then she needs to get a grip and she needs to grow up.

She is 14 for goodness sake! She has not yet finished 'growing up'.

I really hate the 'other people are worse off so you should be grateful' argument. It denies people the right to their own feelings. Of course, some people do get upset over entirely irrational things, but, actually, I can see her point of view here.
  • I want a Peppa Pig card from my dad. I'm in my 50's. My dad isn't around any more, and even when he was, he didn't ever send me cards, make phone calls or write me letters. The day he sent me a text (about Big Brother evictions, because we were away and he thought I'd want to know!) was a red letter day - and I was in my 40's then.

I always knew he loved me, though. Help your daughter to know this, too, while she has him, albeit imperfect, albeit at a distance.

Peppa Pig's for pre-school children. Having said that, I do have a Hello Kitty bag, which draws admiring comments from young children :o

Goodness.. what a lot of replies...

yes last night was a bit of a rant... as I never say a word in front of any of my 'babies' about thier silly daddy! (I know for sure that I am not the only person who refers to exes as silly daddies! its a bit more polite than what i really do call him ;) but that would fill the page with stars ;) )

We have been seperated for 10 years, so I have had lots of similar occasions to this one over the years... I think that maybe she has reacted in a bit of a huff about the peppa pig card! She would have been very happy with a my little pony card :D

I have 3 darling monsters...(biggest one is away doing his grown up thing) middle one is 17 (and planning her uni escape :) ) my youngest is 14 and she is just at that very 'hormonal' sensitive stage.... So 2 days ago her big sis got her Xmas card from daddy... and she was upset as hers hadnt arrived,,, didnt get that royal mail sometimes are slow to deliver things...

Today she got home from school, and her card was here.. she opens it and Silly Silly Daddy has sent her a bright pink peppa pig card!!!( with a colour in a peppa pig picture on the back!! )

Lets just say she nearly hit the roof!!!

Silly Daddy doesnt talk to me, so I cant even phone him and say how old do you think she is? Does her not going through a 'Goth'stage with Black hair and clothes maybe make you think that a pink peppa pig card may not be best idea..!!

am sorry about the rant... my baby is upset and I cant fix it!!

Sorry... but even though the OP has come back to reply, I cannot believe she feels that last line is the writing of a balanced parent.

'My baby is upset and I can't fix it'... really, that is not just a 'rant', that is a complete over-reaction. No-one, thankfully, has died. There hasn't been a disaster of any sort to warrant that line.

    Perspective is required.

Irrespective of the nauseating terminology used in relation to the children, I feel this is much ado about nothing and really, was it worth starting a thread about? Seriously?

maybe "silly daddy" has no idea who peppa pig is and just thought it was a cute card, and its the thought that counts

Totally agree with this. It belittles feelings.

If thats the case none of us should feel upset ever as at rhe end of the day we have a roof over our head and somewhere dry to sleep. Yes it is true and it does put things into perspective. However it does feel like its taking comfort from someone elses misery.

Or maybe 'silly daddy' often complains how much his children act like babies, and this was a sarcastic way or reminding her how he feels.

Because OP has decided not to come back, we don't know.
