I desperately wanted a pair of the Clarks 'Magic Steps' shoes - the ones with a key in the sole. Unfortunately the didn't make them in a wide fitting and I never got a pair :(

Well I'm an old git born in the late fifties.

My parents chose to spend their money on alcohol and so toys weren't the priority in our house.

I was the eldest of three but none of us ever got what we asked for.

It was always an 'equivalent' if you know what I mean.

    Over several years -

I asked for Scalextric - I got Trik Trak (if anyone remembers that!!) and I had to share it!!!!!!!!!
I asked for a Hornby train set - I got a train set that ran on batteries across the carpet
I asked for a Johnny Seven gun - nothing
I asked for an Action Man - I got a 'doll' with arms and legs that didn't bend.

But do you know what? A beautiful lady I met a few years ago actually listened to me and gave a me an Action Man(when I was 54!) - how cool's that? And she wasn't my ex

    YES. Mr Frosty!!!

In real life it probably would have been really disappointing!

I always wanted one, my fella got me one a couple of years ago. One use and in the bin, cheap rubbish toy

  • I really wanted a sindy doll and was so disappointed when I got a barbie instead. Imagine my surprise years later when Barbie was all the rage and I still had my old barbie to give to my daughter. I was also another child who wanted a mr frosty and didn't get one, however after getting one for DS, I can totally understand why I never did get one.

Mr brother had the cadburys chocolate dispenser thingy.... although I don't think he ever got any refills for it.

I do remember wanting a keyboard when I was 11 but mum and dad (probably quite wisely) decided that it wasn't a good idea and got me a telly instead. It was actually sat in their bedroom covered in a blanket for a good month or so but I never cottoned on (I even sat on it at one point to have a conversation with them - clueless).

Anyhoo...... as useful as it was (it lasted a good 20 years) it wasn't what I wanted and I was even less impressed by my brother getting a Nintendo (the first one) and promptly hooking it up to my telly and then not letting me have a go all day. not a happy bunny ;)

Mind you most other years I got exactly what I wanted......... even that Barbie dream house (complete with lift) that my dad spent all night building for me (cardboard and plastic thing) so it was ready for first thing in the morning :D

I wanted Operation. Never got it.
Of course I could buy it for myself now.
But it wouldn't be the same.

OH told me of a boy on his street. All the boys had Action Man, except for this one poor kid whose mother had bought him Ken. Back then Ken had a really big head. They used to play in the muck with all the Action Men and big-headed Ken.

I also bought myself a Mr Frosty in my 20s, it was impossible to use and barely touched the ice - major disappointment! Our parents were obviously wise to this!

The best present I ever had was a My Little Pony castle, it came with Majesty the Unicorn and her little dragon friend (Spike?) and had a basket you could wind up and down to transport him from the ground floor to the first floor. Totally epic and I cherished it for years.

I still have my My Little Pony Castle. I'm actually a bit mean as even though my girls are really good with toys I only let them play with it when I'm keeping a close eye as I have cherished it. It was the first good Christmas I remember. It was the first one that my grandparents had a wee bit of cash so my brother and I both got the one thing we'd asked for.

I never got a Mr Frosty and I never got a Care Bear. My Grandad bought me a Care Bear when I left home.

My brother had the 2p chocolate thing. The chocs lasted ages as he thought they'd never be replaced. He'd spend ages putting 2ps in and then he'd refill the machine and start again. He got replacement chocs for his birthday in February and ate all the originals in one go :rotfl:
