I was born in 1984, and while my parents did tend to get me the 'girl' sets of lego (stables and cafes and other nonsense) and the girly colours with bikes/roller skates etc. there was no way they'd have denied me something I wanted just because it was intended for boys and no other reason!
I was at secondary school when you were born
and in the 4th year... Computer Science was on the "options" list but it was only for boys. Girls were pushed into taking typing, home ec and needlework. 0 -
Hehe look what's no:1 on the list: http://www.denofgeek.com/other/12594/top-10-disappointing-toys-of-the-1980s I still want one though! :rotfl:
So funny how many parents didn't buy them, I'm sure I had this on my list for years!0 -
I also bought myself a Mr Frosty in my 20s, it was impossible to use and barely touched the ice - major disappointment! Our parents were obviously wise to this!
The best present I ever had was a My Little Pony castle, it came with Majesty the Unicorn and her little dragon friend (Spike?) and had a basket you could wind up and down to transport him from the ground floor to the first floor. I don't remember wanting any gifts that I didn't get BUT I remember wanting the game hungry hippos for ages. My mum got me one for xmas when I was 11 or 12 but after a few hours of constantly playing, she get fed up with the noise of it so she asked me repeatedly to stop playing it...or course I never listened so she went mad and smashed it up
lol, can't say I blame her now I'm nearly 30 but at the time I think I hated her for quite a few months! Saved so far - £28,890.97

I have to say I must have been quite lucky as my sister and I always seemed to get everything we asked for for Christmas and Birthdays. We werent spoilt any other time of the year but yes, we were very lucky xSlimming World Member - Started 05/02/150

I wanted the "Big Yellow Teapot" and the "A La Carte Kitchen" and I got neither.
My friend had a Mr Frosty - it was a pain in the bottom. It's basically like one of those french cheese graters with the turning handle, and it took what seemed like hours to get enough slush to make a small cup of ice drink.0 -

Oh I LOVED my fisher price garage, I remember I got that, a walking talking doll and a hen that clucked and laid an egg at around the same time; the doll got very little attention afaik
. Lovely memories. 0 -
I put a Helix Treasure Chest (red metal lockable box - I had a sister 6 years younger and wanted somewhere I could keep my 'treasures' safe) on my christmas (and birthday) lists for years without any luck.
One year, I even saw my mum wrap one for a cousin, so thought I was sure to get it that year - I didn't - but a couple of years later, when I was in my early teens, I did get the 'new improved' version - which looked like a toy pirate chest with a useless lock *shakes head* I ended up buying a 'proper' one for myself - still use it now, 20+ years later.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -

My oldes was born in 1982, he had dolls (not for Christmas, mainly hand me downs or from Jumble sales) he's the only one if my three who has told me he won't be having childrenPlease forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
I never got a bike

My parents were not well off when we were young, so my Nan bought my brother a bike, a top Johnny Chopper none the less, but she didn't think girls should ride one so she wouldn't buy me one.
The following year I was still yearning for a bike, just before christmas I found a bicycle repair kit while just looking through the cupboards, like you do
I was convinced this meant that this was the year.
My best friend was getting a bike too, so we made arrangements for her to cycle down to me on christmas day so that we could go for a ride together, needless to say my bike never materialised. Oh the shame of telling my bestie i didn't get my bike.
I don't know who was more disappointed that year, me because I didn't get a bike, or my brother because he got a repair kit as a pressie :rotfl:Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
