Ah I see. Good thinking batman. So far, the free indie games they've been offering every month have been immense. There's a horror one next month, but for the life of me I can't remember the name. Outlast maybe? Anyway looks creepyKnowledge is a tool, and like all tools, its impact is in the hands of the user.0

You obviously don't read the DigitalFoundry comparisons, or have heard of "resolutiongate", where some current cross-platform titles run at 720p on XBox One but the full 1080p on PS4. That's quite a difference and very noticeable.
Here's a quote from their Assassins Creed 4 comparison.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-assassins-creed-4-next-gen-face-off
"With the next generation consoles we have the level of stability required to let the gameplay breathe without hardware limitations getting in the way. This is perfectly demonstrated on the PS4 after the release day patch has been installed: 1080p visuals allow the intricate artwork to shine, while the rock solid 30fps update means that control is never disrupted outside of the game's somewhat erratic animation blending system and automated climbing mechanics. The Xbox One version unfortunately has a harder time delivering the same accomplishments, due to the lower 900p resolution and sharpening filter giving the game a much rougher look. The appearance of frame-rate drops in some scenes is also disappointing, considering the 30fps target and sub-native visuals, but on the plus side these issues were a fairly rare occurrence during our capture session, outside of isolated experiences."
So, the XBox One version has a lower-res display, and a inconsistent, jerky framerate...not quite the next-gen experience we were hoping for.
but i dont think the xb1 having a lower resolution is anything to do with the hardware but with the publishers. higher resolution needs more memory, and for 1080 its 2GB for 4K it is 4GB(my 6950 tf3 had 2GB and it played all my games at 1080 even farcry 3 but with most of the eye candy turned off and at 30fps which is crap!)
so the xb1 has less stream processors but a higher clock then ps4 they still can perform some what the same.
for example in todays gpus the r9 290 has less stream processors then the
r9 290x but an overclocked 290 can match the 290x0 -
Xbox all the way. For me, one of the big differences is the control pad, the xbox pad fits so much better in your hand and it's a lot more comfy.0

MercilessKiller wrote: »Hi everyone,
Well, as a teccie, gadget freak, and gamer, I definitely prefer the Xbox One. Firstly, I took advantage of an erroneous discount code to get it at the same price as the PS4 - Had that not worked, I would have waited for the price to lower but still go for the XBone over the PS4? Why? Well, its simple:
PS4 - Great for gaming but only gaming. 100% of the price is for gaming.
Xbox One - Great for gaming, great for home entertainment too, great for other features (detailed below)
So if you think about value for money.. for around £350 for the PS4, you have spent £350 on a gaming machine.
Now for the Xbox One which you can get at £400, you're getting better value for money due to the other features IF you would tend to use them. I'm sure most of you know what these are but an idiots guide includes:
1) Kinect for voice + motion gesture - Motion gesture is new yes, but the voice control is REALLY good. It's smooth and works painlessly for me. I haven't picked up my TV remote since I got my Xbox because "Xbox On" turns on the console AND the TV as well (that's a cool feature!). I can then tell it to go to netflix and play something, or to skype video call someone, in just a couple of voice commands. It's REALLY cool, and it's a show off gadget that everyone seems impressed with when they visit
2) Skype/Netflix - Going from point 1, the voice compatibility with Skype and Netflix makes this thing SO cool... Seeing as I use both a lot, this makes it easier
3) Gaming - Obvious. Now, people state the PS4 gfx far outweigh the Xbox Ones. That's not true. You'll hear quotes from developers saying it's harder to develop for the Xbox One,but you're not paying for a platform based on whether it makes developers lives a little harder - they will build games for both that work beautifully for both. Yes, in 6 years time the PS4 may be able to get a little more out of games, but that's not important to me now. Or for 6 years.
4) Multi-tasking - Being able to play a game, flip to IE/Skype or to pin an app on the right side of the screen while continuing to play the game is super cool. OK, more apps need to be developed to take use of this feature, but it's cool to have something innovative and this definitely is!
5) HDMI IN - More to come soon on this but having Virgin Media/Sky passing through the Xbox is very cool as well, and there will be a lot more features related to this when the update is released in Q1/Q2.
Now some people will flame some of the above features (please don't)... It's subjective. I personally like those features a lot. I love the console, I love kinect (and use it daily), and I don't regret my purchase.
But if you want to save £££ and just want a gaming console, you can't go wrong with the PS4 - It's not a budget option, it's a "pure gaming" option.
Hope that helps peeps!
While I understand a lot of what you are saying, I must disagree with the premise that the PS4 is a "pure gaming" machine. The Xbox may have functionality that the PS doesn't, but I so often come home, pick up my PS4 controller, push the button on said controller to turn it on (it sits on my desk and so I just push the button on the monitor for that) and after a very short bootup I have options that extend beyond just gaming. I frequently watch Netflix, Lovefilm, read the news, go on iPlayer (which as far as I know isn't possible on Xbox right now, or am I wrong on this?) and best of all, I don't pay for any of that as I've let me PS+ subscription lapse because right now there are no games I'm wanting to play online right now. I can also hop between these apps extremely easily and quickly.
Furthermore, I'd add that you're in denial about the gaming side of things, the simplicity of the PS4 allows developers to be lazy when developing, the ESRAM is a pain to use and sadly all too often not taken advantage of. The point I'm making is that I agree, you're not paying based on whether or not it makes developers lives harder, but developers aren't going to make their own lives harder if that's what it takes to achieve visual parity. I'd also add that PS Now coming to the UK next year could bring massive benefits to the gaming side that Microsoft are yet to commit to.
I'm not trying to rant or whatever, but I think people easily forget the PS4 does more than just play games, probably owing to the narrower focus of the console.
I personally wanted a console for gaming, and I'm happy with the PS4, in my living room I've got other devices that handle other things, and I see no reason why I should have one device take control over everything, when for the most part my PC does a better job of controlling media content.
I like the Xbox, and maybe in a couple years if Microsoft drop the price and ditch kinnect I'll pick one up. We'll see :P0 -

Plus it's outselling it 2.5x to 1 worldwide at the moment (source: vgchartz)

XOne 37,786 12,212 N/A 53,670
Having said that, I've been enjoying the Titanfall beta at work this past few days. As always, if you're a fan of platform exclusives then ignore the above and just go for whatever has the games you like.0 -
although I have been slightly dissapointed with the XB1 to date, mainly due to the initial teething issues and lack of expected things, like TV guide etc... I love the fact its an all in one unit, I can be watching TV, and someone calls on skype, or watch TV and run another app on the same screen, or just grab the controller if nothing is worth watching and start a game up, or surf the web
In time, i think it will show itself to be the superior unit, in terms of overall functionality0 -

You misunderstood me. I wasn't recommending or suggesting to buy an Xbox one either... yet.
Why should somebody buy EITHER console when their selling points are not going to be available for another year.
One of my friends bought a ps4 at launch, the other an xbone and both are moaning about how they have nothing to play on them except HD remakes and tech demo sequels with no real content over what they had on the previous gen.
As for the sales figures... lots of people bought the wii, and bought !!!!!! shovelware rather than the few GOOD games (xenoblade, de blob, pandora's tower, no more heroes). That doesn't automatically make the shovelware good, nor the good games bad. It means the public at large is uninformed and has poor taste.
So I ask again:
What good reason is there to buy either of the new consoles NOW, when the games that are out aren't going away, the main selling points are not even available, and the price is going to drop (it always does)?0 -

The price will inevitably drop, but if your intention down the road is getting a PS4 then there's probably little harm in getting one now as I don't see that dropping in price for a couple of years, and some great games are coming up this year that you'll need either a good PC or one of these consoles for (Witcher 3, for example).
Xbox on the other hand I can see coming down in price to compete, whether by lowering the profit margin, or by ditching kinnect, is unpredictable as of now.0
