Mk6 Golf and EGR valve issues

    i have an issue with intermittent power loss on 2009 mk6 Golf TDI SE. it will lose power intermittently and jerk (similar to fuel starvation) and then be fine a few seconds later. it occurs at a range of speeds or on the flat or on an incline. Another rarer symptom is that if you're stopped at lights , the rev needle will flick up and down and the engine just dies. the car starts after about 2 attempts then it'll be fine for the rest of the journey. Mass Air Flow (MAF) has been replaced but has not made a difference. no codes or lights. been going for a few months now and fuel is from different service stations and happens whether tank is full or not. Been to garage, but because its intermittent and there are no codes, they cant find any issues.

    Are these issues similar to what everyone here was getting?

    Used Tuesday and pop... Same issue as MrRandom, hen happened twice today.

    This is all really backing up my lack in faith of VW, especially as on Monday it was due in for MOT and the much talked about ECU update

    Not a happy customer if this is also going to cost me the best part of 1000 quid.
  • Wondering it is now time to purchase an additional two year warranty?

    Going in on Monday. based on all the above, it looks like I am going to have fun with this. Especially as it's in for an MOT AND the emmisions "fix"

    This seems to be one of the longest threads I've come across on the issue so ill add my experience to the list of disgruntled owners...

    Had my car limp home on Sunday and then fail to start for 2 days. It would turn over, idle for a few seconds then cut out. Had it towed to VW garage who said the EGR was blocked solid and was never moving.
    Car is a 2009 1.6 TDI MK6 Golf with only 42000 miles on the clock. Is there any correlation in the issues? I seem to be reading a lot of older posts where the mileage is similar (40k-50k) but reached a lot earlier - but one thing is common. The price of £1100 but with some good will, down to approx £700. While it's great to get some discount and help from the dealers, there sounds like a lot of good will for an issue caused by "Bad fuel" and/or "poor driving technique". If this was the case, why not hold your price at £1100? I'm a skeptic, but my experience of owning this particular Mk6 Golf has been riddled with issues aside from the emissions fiasco - and is certainly food for thought toward a further VW purchase in the future.

    I have a 2010 SEAT Ibiza 1.6TDI with the VW engine. I took the car to a SEAT dealer for the VW Nox emissions cheat to be corrected and told the dealer that the car had an intermittent problem with the EML coming one and the engine going into 'limp' mode. They agreed to investigate.
    When the car was returned to me I was told that the recall work had been done and that it appeared that there was a problem with the EGR valve but they had made some adjustments, road tested the car and it was ok.I was charged £60. I drove the car away from the workshop and within 1 mile the EML was flashing, the emissions control light was on and the car was in 'limp' mode. Returned the vehicle to the workshop, got told it was the EGR valve and it would be £428 to fit a new one and that it had nothing to do with the recall work carried out - I had just handed over £60 to make a temporary problem into a permanent on one. Basically the customer services of both the dealer and SEAT UK left a lot to be desired. I had always regarded SEAT to be a sound value-for-money brand but my experience has actually turned me away from diesel engines and VAG.I am currently seeking a more effective solution to the EGR valve problem. My next big problem could well be the DPF - I dread to think of replacement cost of that!!
  • We have the same issue, more or less the same costings and more or less the same unsymathetic staff.

    I have registered a complaint with VW and from what I am reading the effort made by VW ranges from £200 to one chap getting £500 off his bill.

    I had just decided to keep this car as it's been very good (had a few issues) and felt it was a very cost effective car. I have recently been reading about the EGR valve mixed with the ever decreasing quality of diesel causing a large revenue for Audi, Seat and VW. I was also told today BY VW that the EGR valve was a rush job to ensure the emissions fell below the sanctioned numbers. That coupled with the ECU issue makes me have zero confidence in the car I have bought. I went to VW becuase I needed a car and wanted quality. I have (like many others) been bitten and in the pocket.

    It's appaulling that this is allowed, that this is going unreported and also going un compensated. VW are being unfair and even if my complaint gets rewarded with some form of compensation. I am no longer taking my car to them, and I am going to selll it/trade it in for another manufacturer.

    We do not stand for our rights in this country. Whilst the US and Germany are getting compensation for the ECU blunder. All we get is a "Fix" and car depreciation. Despite them saying it hasn't.
  • Does anyone think that if I were to run some diesel fuel addative (redex) through the tank now, that it could potentially fix the issue, clear out the valve etc etc
  • My EGR valve issue is not going to be supported by VW or Dealership.

    So the £1k charge stands and I will have to foot the bill. The dealership also stated they will not be lowering the cost of labour.

    The part costs (depending who you ask) £250

    Which means the VW dealership are NOT budging on the £750 (ish) they plan to charge me to do the work. I now will not be using that dealership, and will now reconsider the option of purchasing another VW in the future. My car has done 45k so I plan to keep it for atleast another year or two but the work carried out on the vehicle will not be done by VW.

    To say I am furious is an understatement.
