Mk6 Golf and EGR valve issues

I have a 2011 Golf 1.9 diesel Bluemotion with over 100k miles. Following the emissions update the coil light illuminated and limp mode activated a couple of times driving back from London.
VW diagnosed for free and said it needed a replacement EGR valve for £735 but that they had asked VW head office to subsidise it.
I just had a call saying they would pay for it all.
Bear in mind I did not buy the car there or have any service history with them...0 -
I am having the same issuee with VW over this EGR Valve problem at the moment.
I have a 61 plate MK6 Golf 1.6 Bluemotion DSG with 36000 on the clock.
For the last couple of months there has been a slight change in how the car feels when going through the gears and a slight lack of power compared to a few months ago. I thought this could just be down to the cold weather until one day the flashing glow plug light came up on the dash and I lost all power going up a hill. There was nowhere to pull over so I had to crawl up the hill in second gear at 15mph!
Kept happening over the course of the next week so booked it in for a service and diagnostics check. VW told me that the EGR Valve has a mechanical fault and that they'd spoke to VW who weren't willing to offer a goodwill gesture. So I'm left with a £1100 bill for replacement.
I've told them that I've seen it's a common issue with cars of this type and there's plenty of evidence online to suggest that massive discounts have been given to others with the same problem. They initially tried telling me they've never known any issues of this type!!
Is there any way I can take this further if I don't get an outcome I'm happy with? Or is it just a case of tough luck?
I've told them unless we reach a compromise that I won't be getting the repair done at a VW dealership, I won't be having any further services or MOT's done with them and I will actively discourage people from buying a VW or using their services.
The catalytix converter warning light is now showing. If I continue to drive it before getting the repair done will I risk causing more damage to the vehicle?
I'm still waiting to hear back from the VW customer care team after nearly 48 hours but any help would be massively appreciated.0 -

I suggest that anybody with a "fix" or EGR issue should Read this.0 -
If you have a VW Group Diesel product including Audi, Skoda and Seat I suggest that you search on Facebook for The Volkswagen diesel customer forum (Emissions scandal)
This at the last count had 500 members (it is a closed group so you will have to apply for access) and has all the information you need about the EGR problems before and after the fix.
Please add your voice and experience to the Facebook page which has been recognised by the House of Commons Transport Select Committee.
VW are clearly trying to divide and conquer - so a collective voice is needed. Please join the group.0 -
Have you had the fix done?
See my following posts regarding the links to some essential reading.
Go back to the dealer kick up a stink - tell them you know about hundreds of people who have similar issues before and after the Fix.
Tell them that you know VW technical expert who gave evidence to the Commons Select Committee is now in prison in the United States charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States of America.
Tell them that you know VW's MD Paul Willis is up for a grilling in front of the Commons Select Committee again next week and you will be adding your voice to the hundreds of VW customers who have already submitted evidence.
Good luck and happy reading!
You are not alone - VW will not get away with this is we do not allow them to divide and conquer!0 -
I have a 2008 1.9tdi golf match
For the past year or so it's been having problems starting up.
Take yesterday for example.
Took children to out of town shopping centre 20 miles away. Went to leave, engine turned over a couple of times. Pulled key out and restarted. Car went fine. Went to the supermarket on the way home.
Home for 30 minutes when husband calls and asks if I can pick him up from the train station. Car won't start at all. I used to be able to put it in first gear and start it but that won't work either.
It does this every few weeks.
It's annoying and unreliable.
Anyone had similar?0 -
Latest from VW is that the KBA report (thats ok's the software fix) is confidential and I can't see it! After some pushing VW agreed to give me a link to the KBA site where I can read about the report in German. 2 days later still waiting for the link to be sent!
Looking forward to seeing VW in front of the H o C Select Cttee on Monday, if only to hear what their latest line on this is.0 -

Get rid of it asap.0 -
Just to update if anyone has this EGR problem out of warranty and is facing a massive bill from VW to fix then it is possible to remap to remove the error which won't affect any MOT emissions test. It's probably not ideal but £120 to remap or £1000 to replace might be the difference between keeping car on the road or not.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0

@ipjeffrey
Does not work. I was sent on my way to find alternative support to fix my vehicle.
VW EGR valve went pop and they (VW) refused outright to assist with the reduction of payment.
ECU Fix - During the MOT I flat out refused the fix. I asked the lady to NOT do the fix in anyway shape or form.0
