So the £1k charge stands and I will have to foot the bill. The dealership also stated they will not be lowering the cost of labour.
The part costs (depending who you ask) £250
Which means the VW dealership are NOT budging on the £750 (ish) they plan to charge me to do the work. I now will not be using that dealership, and will now reconsider the option of purchasing another VW in the future. My car has done 45k so I plan to keep it for atleast another year or two but the work carried out on the vehicle will not be done by VW.
To say I am furious is an understatement.
Was your car bought from and maintained by a VW main dealer?
What sort of driving do you do? City, short runs, regular long trips etc?

@jeepjunkie Morning,
Yes, bought and maintained by the same VW garage since I have owned it. Until now, now I will never return the VW garage that has told me they won't lower the £125 an hour rate they charge and VW as an owner is now rock bottom. As the issue with the EGR is due to bad placement (melted as next to manifold)
All of the above, I drive to and from work (18 miles each way) on the motorway or if earlier travell I will go in via city roads, then at weekends to Scotland, lakes, wales, short journies to town. I do it all :-)0 -
Cheers for the reply.
Yeah same with our VW Golf 1.6 BM does long runs and has almost never done city driving. Makes me wonder why it has stop start when the salesman made it clear it was not a city car due to DPF etc!? All very odd...
Anyway ours so far has been trouble free and had the emissions fix done last Dec when in for service and MOT. If anything the car runs better and with a bottle of Wynns Xtreme cleaner average mpg is back up to 60. Was struggling to get past 48mpg prior!?
Should I have any issues I would probably just go for an EGR delete and remap but we'll see.

Just got my 'recall' letter, which says "You'll be reassured to hear that independent testing authorities have confirmed that there will be no negative impact (from the software fix) on engine performance, max engine torque, fuel consumption, noise and CO2 emissions as a result of having this update applied".
When I asked my garage who did the testing and can I see the report, ... a long pause and after a consultation I was given a number to ring, which turned out to be Audi who actually knew a bit about it. Turns out it (the independent testing authority) is the KBA (German Federal Transport Authority). The person at Audi wanted to read me the VW statement on this, but did agree to email it me, although it will take 5- 10 days !
Meanwhile car is booked in for the fix, and although VW have agreed to collect and return my car, they can't give me a courtesy car unless I go into the garage - for 'insurance reasons'.
VW say they want all their customers to be 100% satisfied, but based on what has happened so far, can't really see this happening.0 -

Which engine to you have?
Mine was the 1.6 with no issues after the fix, if anything it runs better but it was in for major service/mot ant the same time.

Its a 1.6TDI. Good news that your update has had no issues. Hoping mine will be the same.

My Mk 6 2.0L 2011 Golf just came back from having EGR valve replaced. VW made 90% contribution and I paid the 10% £87.50 which i thought was good of them. My car has got 46k on clock. The dealer was VW Vertu Nottingham North who have been very proffesional throughout. However the car was bought new from there and has been serviced there every year and has a service plan even though out of warranty. But 46k on the clock is not alot for this kind of problem to start so maybe that was a factor. I enjoy driving my car and would buy a VW again from my experince. Also had software update regarding emission scandal last November and car is fine. Some times things go wrong but in my case they sorted it out well.0

Hi, my 2010 Golf estate 1.6 TDI SE with 150,000 miles had the software update two weeks ago. Up until then it had been pretty reliable, a clutch / flywheel at about 80,00, timing belt at 115,00 (piece of mind) and the odd DPF light if I'd been around town a few days (sorted by a 15 min motorway cruise in 4th at 2500 revs) but nothing engine related. A day after the software update the engine warning (coil) came on and went off within a few seconds, it then stayed off until 2 days later when 50 miles from home, so a slow "limp" back down the M6. My local garage (the car has not been to the main dealer since the warranty ran out) who checked the warning and said it was a MAF sensor. The next day the car started fine and ran for another two days so I thought it was OK, but it did make a rather odd "chink" 3 times when I switched off the engine. I then had to make a rather urgent journey to pick up my daughter but within a few miles the coil light came on along with "limp" mode, a quick flick of the ignition off/on sorted it but it re occurred again with a minute, I did this a few times but it was becoming rather annoying so I pulled over and disconnected the MAF sensor cable (it was an urgent journey). Upon re starting the engine I had a "few" error lights but none too serious and the engine had power. I drove just over 100 miles in total with the sensor disconnected without further engine warning light problems, but upon reconnecting the MAF sensor and starting the engine the following morning I had the engine warning light (engine block) permanently on and the coil light came on soon afterwards. I spoke to the main dealer who said that they had tested the car before the update and again after as stipulated by VW. So I took the car back to be tested and they said that it was the EGR valve, they stated that the software update had caused the issue and agreed that VW would pay the full £1000+ to replace it. I hope that's the end of the issue and I get another 150,000 out of it. So if you're looking to buy a diesel make sure your driving it correctly (hard) and not on too many short journeys. Would I but another VW, yes, diesel, no, only because I now mostly drive short journeys due to a change of job :j and I can use my bike to go to work :T:T:T0

Since my last post where I detailed the EGR replacement I had carried out, here is where I am now.
Golf, 1.6, Tdi, 60 plate, 41,000 miles.
VW Martins of Hook, Hampshire, have picked my car up this morning for the emissions fix. I have also asked them to re-look into the bad idling/cutting out issues.
My car is 1 year into a 2 year warranty period. It has already been in for an EGR valve replacement as I too was having cut out issues, irratic idling but I've never had any lights come on. They said the valve and connecting pipes were heavily blocked. This was back half a year ago and the problem still persists/has returned. I can't say really as it is so intermittant. The car is not fit for purpose really.
It was replaced under warranty so no cost (yet) except the travelling to and fro and the lack of a car for how ever long they have it.
I will report back.
What are my options if the issues persist or get worse? Part of me wants to go back to Martins and swap it in for a similar value/mileage car but I can't see that happening. After the 2 year warranty I'll be stuck with a car that runs worse than my old Peugeot 205XS.0 -
Just had a call from VW saying they have done the cheat update. They are also waiting from authorisation from VW to replace injector number 2 which apparently is the cause of the idle/cut out problem. I asked why this hasn't been picked up before and all I got back was that a new testing procedure may have been introduced if enough people had had the same issue. Told them that as a customer it would be nice to know a bit more after living with the issue for so long but she was just the messenger. I live in false hope this solves the problems.0
