Im out of idea's now and almost given up hope.I have tried everyting that everybody has suggested and got rid of my ants only to find numbers slowly rising within a few days of them seemingly going.I think they see me coming and run into hiding only to emerge a few days later to taunt me.They are obviously much cleverer than me and lets face it I'm never gonna win.
  • hi we moved in to a new house a few weeks ago and were overrun with them coming in through the patio door somewhere I bought a bait station form asda i think they were £3.00 for two you snap off the tabs and leave where you have the most activity they went mad for it for a whole day it was covered and i have not had a ant in the house since so it must have wiped the nest out
  • Hi I am being driven to distraction by ants in my study - I think they must be 'carpenter ants' - each morning I find ever bigger heaps of white powder at the edges of the room where the laminate flooring in my study meets the skirting board. It seems that I have ants living under the laminate flooring and they are burrowing out the 'insulation' under the flooring and throwing it out on to the top. Some days there are loads of ants crawling all over the white dust which I understand now to be the remains of the sheeting underneath the laminate.

I cannot see any busy ant activity outside the house but of course have put down ant powder and I have had the ant poision in the room since July. I have even had pest control people out and they say they haven't seen ant activity like it and say its a bit late in the season to be dealing with it with poison because the queen will have already laid the eggs. I am fearful that I will have to rip up the laminate flooring to try and locate the nest and stop the critters making the white dust - although the laminate looks fine on the top still - it can't be doing it any good to have the supporting insulation being eaten into.

Has anyone else come across this problem before and dealt with it successfully?
  • I tried the Boots "extra-strength" insect repellent wipe as advised by Alexei on 1st Aug. Brilliant, no ants. Thanks very much.

I use "Ant Stop". It stops them for 3 months. We had some recently coming in under the threshold of the front door and used the spray inside as well. Worked a treat.

It's usually just under £4.00 for a spray bottle but I bought one last week in Sainsburys reduced down to £1.99.

Haven't had any problems since using this.;)
    I wish you......

I kept having a little pile of grit in the corner of my door and for weeks i was sucking it up with the hoover until i saw a couple of ants ewwww.I put tea tree oil all the way along the floor next to the door,it was saturday night and all i could think of.Ive never saw another ant again, touch wood but i think i may have just caught a few strays away from its nest rather than an infestation of them.
  • Huge thank you to hartcjhart. I try to avoid killing things & using heavy duty chemicals. Sprayed my windowsill where ants were leaving piles of detritus with a mixture of diluted white vinegar and it's worked a treat.

We have had a recurring problem with ants for the last 3 years. I have no problem with them outside, but they have been getting into our dining room and utility room and it's gross, especially as we get flying ants too!

Each year, we refill settlement cracks. We've tried polyfiller, expanding foam, silicone gel sealant. Ant powder, ant spray etc, but the little s*ds still get in. You name it, we have tried it!

We put ant powder down outside around the perimiter and around windows and doors but nothing seems to work long term and now I am dreading the hot weather as it will mean more ants, and I won't feel able to leave my windows and doors open. I am also worried that when we go away on holiday, we will return to find loads of ants crawling everywhere.

I wash and hoover floors daily to make sure no crumbs are left on the floor, make sure all food is stored away in the kitchen as well.

    What else can I do?
