I'm going to say this as clearly as I can one more time.

IF SHE WANTS TO BELIEVE, WE WON'T BE STOPPING HER. WE JUST AREN'T STARTING/HAVEN'T STARTED IT OFF FOR HER!!!!!

It's up to her whether she wants to conform to whatever her friends believe. We aren't foisting it onto her, that's all.

Is it really that hard to understand?

Its kind of hard to understand, because it doesn't really make a lot of sense.

Father Christmas is everywhere, she's going to believe in it unless you actively try to prevent that.

Umm, you are though, you have & are still, "allowing" someone else (nanny, the nursery)to tell your child this great damaging lie.

Why not just tell her outright rather than be forced to do what the rest of happily go along with once our kids got hooked up in the myth?
I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

Oh the irony of refusing to 'lie' about Santa for a few short years but happily telling them about a virgin birth and a magical carpenter as if it were absolute fact.

We told our son that we celebrated Jesus' birth because we were Christians but we also said that not everybody believed in Jesus and might not celebrate in the same way.

(No-one believes in a magical carpenter).

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Out of interest....if she DID choose to conform and believe because her friends do and she has learned from them, would you play along then and have Santa deliver presents? Or would they all still be from family and Santa wouldn't bring her anything?

The difference is, we do believe the Bible, as perfect truth.
I realise some folk don't and respect that, and only ask they respect my beliefs as my choosing too. I also don't want this to turn into a religious debate, as that is something else completely (I only mentioned it when someone said Christmas could not be special without santa ;)).
We talking about santa, deep down you know (well ok assume, as I suppose he could exist somewhere) it's not true.
As I said though, I am not suggesting because I don't do santa that others shouldn't either, that is each persons choice as they see fit. :)

PS And as seven-day-weekend has already said, Christians don't believe Jesus is a magical carpenter, miraculous perhaps, not magical!

I am not trying to be inflammatory (honestly), but am confused as to where you get this notion?

Well, I didn't say that, I said that Father Christmas is special and magical and exciting, which is not the same thing at all.

Well, we're 3 Christmases in so far and it's going okay so far. I don't really care whether you or anybody else understands it.

You're setting her up for a completely different kind of disappointment though. You're setting her up to be on the outside amongst her peers while they all share something special and magical and exciting.

This sentence basically says Christmas is not special, magical, or exciting without santa, I offered an example of how Christmas can be special AND exciting (though not magical) without santa, if you believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Maybe re-read some of your posts ;).

I don't know. That would need a discussion with DH I suppose.

We are 6 years in (this will be his 7th Christmas), and although we do do the Jesus part of it and you don't, our DS is doing perfectly well without santa too. And DD's/DS's with or without santa will all do fine too, as long as they are loved and cared for. That's what it comes down to really!
