Hopefully to disuade able bodied people from using spaces reserved for those with disabilities. Is that such a bad thing?

I agree able bodied and disabled people who don't need to should not use a disabled bay. I think every regular on here does also.

However in UKCPS's case you can use a disabled bay as long as you display a blue badge, so their system is not protecting disabled bays it is simply making them money.

So you believe it is up the the individual driver to decide whether to use a reserved bay or not?

    Sorry, what does ILW mean?

ILW is a troll that agrees with the unlawful charges that PPCs try and impose.

In fact under the Equality Act 2010 it IS up to the individual disabled person to decide if they need a disabled bay provision, same as with any such adjustments. It's their right if they need that provision, and everyone's needs are slightly different.

That's why on job application forms the question is worded:

'Do you consider yourself to be disabled as defined in the EA 2010? And if yes, what reasonable adjustments (if any) will you need...'

in your world you'd want it to say:

'Do you have a Blue Badge, if not then tough we don't consider you to have the right sort of disability...'

    :)
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I do then apologise for missing that line.

My advice is "don't park in disability reserved spaces unless you or a passenger have a disability". chances are you will not get ticketed and everyone wins.

Chances are that you will most likely to get ticketed as the only 'disability' recognised by PPCs is for those who display a blue badge (and one with a current date as many whose date has expired have too been ticketed).

There are many disabled drivers and passengers who do not have blue badges, yet have every entitlement to reasonable adjustment - like parking in disabled bays close to the store.

Parking chimps have absolutely no understanding of what 'disability' really means, and even less about the Equality Act 2010 (with which I think you too are having major difficulties), and that is where the problem lies.

And don't forget, the only reason PPCs 'patrol' disabled parking slots is to issue penalties and generate cash (and often bonuses for the chimp).

So if they give YOUR car a good shake to dislodge your badge from the dash and into the footwell, what are you going to do then with the PCN attached to your windscreen?

We'll still be here for you and help you avoid that 'about right and not too onerous' £100 charge. After all you have NO right to park there if you're not displaying a BB.

    But:
In this case OP does not have any form of disability and admits using the bay was just a matter of his convenience.
Wihtout any sort of firm definition of what constitues a disability and if anyone can just decide for themselves, you may just as well get rid of the disabled bays anyway as it becomes impossible to police.
You will find a lot of X5 drivers who have decided they have a right to use the bays because they had a late night and are a bit tired or have broken a fingernail and need to get to the nail bar in a hurry.
I do agree that is someone has a disability and gets a ticket due to a mistake ( such as badge falling down) it should be appealed and cancelled using all possible means. Just find it a bit galling defending the types who just take the whatsit.
I would ask you, who is actually looking out for those with disabilities?

The current system is far from perfect, but I believe better than nothing.

The context of parking tickets - we are!

The type of case instanced here is not the norm in regard to parking issues relating to disabled motorists/passengers. By far the majority we deal with are those where a disabled motorist is pursued because he/she has 'overstayed' on an ANPR monitored car park (as most car parks are increasingly 'managed' in this way). ANPR is totally indiscriminate and there are far more disabled motorists having to jump through many hoops to prove they are not liable to a parking charge, than any able-bodied motorists who've dumped their car in a disabled parking space.

And we deal with similar 'beefs' to yours, but from the other side of the divide (ILW) - as in 'there's no way anyone needs more than 2 hours to visit Aldi - serves them right, make 'em pay so there's room for me to be able to nip in and out'. We argue the case against this attitude, just are we arguing the case with you.

And, just as you may have a legitimate 'gripe' about the way this motorist disregarded 'what's right', there are those from the other side who might also have legitimate 'gripes' about disabled motorists overstays.

But as we have consistently said, anyone who does ask for our help, it is there for them.
