Not only boring, but deluded, unfunny and a little bit racist.
To keep with the theme of pointing out flaws, the Norwegians also appear to be from Jamaica.0 -
Thought I might pop into this thread to say hello
Sorry to hear about the intruders last night LIR.:mad: It is just so lazy to steal other peoples things.
Thank goodness for the geese.
In the past my dog would have sounded the alarm but sadly she is old and rather deaf now:(:(
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Hi Better Days, lovely to have you here, please draw up a chair, have a cuppa and let us know how much you hate mushrooms....
Your dog would have had to have pretty good hearing to have heard the intruders at LiRs unless you are near neaighbours....I think....0 -

Hello Better Days and welcome to the NPT. :hello: Do stick around.
What sort of dog have you got? Avatar dog (now sadly deceased) was probably half black lab and half greyhound. We called him a labrahound.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Sorry to hear about that.
Time to buy a shotgun perhaps? It's the traditional means for country dwellers to deter thieves. A couple of barrels discharged into the dark should see them gone for good and isn't going to hurt much even if you manage to hit them by some miracle.
The licence and arrangements for it are very complicated - my Dad co-signed as a referee for an old mate and the grief involved is incredible. By the time you've unchained the shotgun and ammunition from the various different secure places, the entire building could have been nicked!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

My mother is unexpectedly babysitting for one of her daughters at the moment - not me, but sister #1, who has acquired a 9 week old puppy. Mama's puppy-sitting during the day, and trying to make sure she doesn't annoy the collies too much, or get mistaken for a rabbit by Yossie the cat and made into lunch....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Its not that bad.
The main issue IMO with going out armed, whatever you go with, is that depending on what's going on you increase risk of escalation.
E.g., if you go with say.....a cricket bat, the chances are an intruder is more ruthless and less careful about the sanctity of life than oneself. Wrestling a bat off me wouldn't be so hard really so a gun seems obvious, If one decides to escalate with a gun you don't have to get as close or be at risk of any 'hand to hand combat' but it also suggests to any one breaking in next time,,....come armed.
Tbh......if push came to shove I'd rather lose the mutability lawn mower than my dog to a bullet.
Where used to live a house /dog sitter at a house down the road was the victim of armed in truders, and was tied and left on the bed for a little over a day before anyone found her and the dog. I think the dog was alright.0 -

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone :T:T and lovely to have a friendly face LIR
I do love a cuppa michaels currently enjoying some Kusmi tea which a friend kindly bought me as a gift - it's divineNo I'm not near LIR :rotfl:although my dog does have an 'exclusion zone' which basically covers as far as she can see and she grumbles if anyone strays into the 'zone'.
My dog is mixed breed LydiaJ - has a bit of Collie I think, possibly some German Shepherd and something with a deep chest, all a bit out of proportion, but we love her anyway. She has been rather poorly recently with an upset tummy. Was very worried as she is nearly 14 and getting frail, but has picked up on anti biotics. Back to the vets this afternoon.
neverdespairgirl I don't envy your Mum puppy sitting - very sweet but lots and lots of work especially at 9 weeks. Ohh just seen the photo - thanks for posting - sooooo cute
In January we got some ex batt hens and they are enjoying the sunshine today. Two eggs a day, and sometimes three. They are feathering up nicely and we now have three fluffy bottoms and one rather ragged bottom. The raggedy bottom has some red skin so I think I might try some sudocream on her. We call her the 'henforcer' as she bosses the others around and I suspect she will take a dim view of sudocream on her bottom :eek:It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.
