One of the things I wouldn't budge on for the cheese room was a very expensive door handle. Ridiculous percentage of the joinery costs. But it is beautiful, in a very plain, handsome way.
Sadly its not as solid and reliable as something plain and handsome should be. This evening Fir is repairing it for the third time since it went in. I know this should make I'd furious with it but we've both been admiring the beautiful patina of use the handle is getting now, The rest is dull brown and the handle a soft shine. Of course, this shows how little I clean my hard ware.......0 -

I have taken the dog for his outdoor duties, but have dressed appropriately. Nobody, but nobody, was outdoors except for me. My jacket is drying in the shower as it leaks dye when it's drenched which it absolutely is.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
A jacket which leaks dye sounds a bit of a design flaw, to me.
My geography A level teacher used to bleat about there being no such thing as bad weather, just bad kit. Which just shows what rubbish she was capable of spouting!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I heard something about boycotts on the radio but didn't hear the start of the article so couldn't say for sure.
That's not a lot of use, really, is it?0 -

I had a uni tutor once that had two items of footwear. In summer she'd wear sandals and in winter moonboots. There was nothing whatsoever in the middle. Maybe they were sisters and she was talking about her sibling. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? She might have been to Norway. The Scandinavian's say there's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.
I've never fully understood why the people who're turning red on the beaches of the med always turn out to be Brits and the ones who're turning brown are from the other northern countries.:oThere is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
DW took me to the Freud Museum this afternoon. On a couch there was a sign reading:This is the couch on which Sigmund Freud died.
Please do not sit on the couch!
In my Master's degree we used to learn about all the Scientific thinkers in Vienna, but I found out there's supposed to be some little patch of Vienna where Stalin, Tito, Freud, Hitler and Trotsky all lived near each other. It must be creepy and scary to have so many opposing weirdos all forming ideas in the one place. I'll make an exception for Tito, whose ideas were probably the most progressive for the political ones. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
There's a patch in Clerkenwell which is pretty much like that for 19th century nutters....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
