    Thanks for that

I have always wanted to use the wagging finger smiley, but there is not a lot of opportunity to do so on the NP thread.

Henley regatta and Waitrose on a Sunday I think. Not sure what they make of me with a backpack (see above re walking at the weekend, trip to waitrose doesn't qualify as special occasion) and hoodie :D

Hope you have a good night's sleep in the hotel Masomnia, and all the best for tomorrow!

Boating types often wear red trousers. OH can be the odd one out in not even owning a pair.

I've found myself quite ok with not thinking about the amounts of money, providing I know I can afford stuff after moving (which seems to be fine, I've done 2 financial statements). Part of that might be because I review my savings every 3 months, so they've become numbers on a piece of paper, not cash.
I'm also comfortable knowing that essentially this is what I've been saving for. Plus, I'm basically moving my savings into a different "investment", all be it one I'll be living in. It seems that a few others (trusted close friends, certain family members) are the ones who keep asking me if I'm worried about "losing"/spending that amount of money.

One friend in particular winces each time I talk about the 3 savings bonds that'll mature that will be the deposit.

I hope you're feeling equally chilled out and rational about it when you are (fingers crossed) transferring that hard saved money to someone else! I found it a very strange feeling. And my savings had been subject to numerous spreadsheets so I was definitely used to thinking of them as just numbers/ points on a graph (yes, there have been graphs :o).

I do keep telling myself that this was what the saving was for - and that now I'm just doing it in a different way: the interest is akin to rent (though more than I've ever been prepared to rent, I've got more than a room to myself) and the bit that comes off the mortgage balance is like what I put away each month.

It doesn't help that as with NDG the mortgage appears on my online banking - thankfully Halifax don't put a big mean minus sign in front of it though!

My Dad had a rush of blood to the head a couple of years ago and bought two pairs of cordurory trousers, in different colours of violent stomach upset.

They spend an extraordinary amount of time at the bottom of the dirty washing basket between being clean.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

Equally, what I find hilarious, is how so many young "individuals" who strive to highlight their individuality are all wearing the same identikit uniform.:rotfl:

With the same tattoo, ear stretching earrings and silly haircuts as well. They would be far better off spending their money on a nice pair of slippers.

DH had some goddam awful bright yellow trousers. He was wearing them when he rolled the LR. The farmer who found him just saw his yellow legs waggling out of the drivers window and thought it was death throws. (He had infact, crawled out the window, then back in front ways to help dog dog , who was with him, out.

It also helped the police, who on their arrival easily found him running around the field opposite screaming dog dogs name (she'd high tailed it off. )

her real name made it sound like he'd lost something other than a dog. I should have come up with something better than dog dog for online really. Not like me. :)

    Lloyds do.

    I have 3 accounts visible:

    1. Current account

    2. Online saver (where I shove my VAT until I need to pay it, rather than long-term savings).

    3. Mortgage.

The positive balances in 1 and 2 are outweighed, just a tad, by the figure in 3 which has a "-" in front of it.

My depressing never ending recruitment experiences are still ongoing - we are always hiring these days. 7 vacancies out of 25 head count. 49 applications for one role I'm trying to fill and only 5 for 2 temporary roles. This time I convinced HR to advertise externally rather than relying on our website but the results were no different. General standard was very poor - noticeably worse than six months ago and disastrous compared to 3-4 years ago.

Just reflects that the city is hiring now and wages are going up. Our pay bands haven't moved since 2007. Senior management has it's head in the sand and is generating hopeless suggestions and witter about favourable work life balance (which vanished at least 5 years ago) whilst insisting pay packages benchmark favourably to competitors and pay is not a factor - meanwhile more of our staff leave to do more junior roles elsewhere for 50% payrises.

Have you considered leaving to do easier work for more money elsewhere? Sounds good to me.

The govts inability to recruit both keeps dept spend under budget and more importantly keeps me in employment as an external :)
    I think....
