He isn't wasting it. He is spending it on something that he could manage without, but which it gives him pleasure to have. People with other priorities might say the same about you "wasting" money on doing up your house to such a high standard, when it was actually habitable before you started.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I never go out the back after dark as it's pitch dark and next to a public area/car park, so gives me the heebie jeebies that I don't want any strange, random lurkers, up to no good out the back, to spot me.

OK, so open the front door and stand by that, then. Basically, act as if you're about to go out for a cig as usual, and then once you've opened whichever door you usually go out through for a cig, don't go out through it, just stand in it until you've finished. (Although if you are in a studio with no internal doors that might make your place terribly cold by the time the cig was finished. Don't know the layout of your home so can't be sure about that.)

£250k is only a take home of £12k/month ... he should be a bit more careful. I'm surprised he can afford to eat out; things must be tough :P

Unfortunately, that's precisely where the smoke detector is :)
I don't, usually, even like to stand closer than 15' to the "pulled to" door, in case a bit of stray smoke finds its way in

Yes - and I shut the doors behind me so any heat doesn't escape.

I don't see it as a waste of money to have a good time out with friends.

Drat :( Please try to stay indoors other than for cig-purposes, PN. Do not go out to look at the fences, roof tiles, car or whatever, until it's daylight. We NP all want you to stay safe.

Yes, Lydia. Hand delivering a birthday beer and a bunch of flowers :)
Edit: and yes, neighbours are lovely. Only met one set properly so far, but apparently everyone else down our section of the road is nice.

Tried to get to sleep. Failed. Can see big trees dancing outside in the wind.

Times like these I miss the city.

Edit: Generali, people often drift away from university friends. It's just normal. Further you get from university the less you have in common and the more commitments you have.
