I'm sure he would have been delighted to go to spirits. I just don my think poor spirit should have been lumped with fir. ;)

He loves fish, would have loved to see pet bunny rabbits too :)

He would have been welcome, however there are gong to be trees down and the nearest main road is flooded.

OH hit a pot hole in a flood on the way home tonight and has at least one puncture, only saving grace is that it was onl about 2 miles from home, so limped home rather than changing the wheel.

Lol, there certainly are trees down.

That line out from London was the only one rail enquiries were saying to risk. Now its got trees on it (I understand it was tree and became trees) that's going to be a pain.

Glad yours is home safe and sound. Hopefully wheel wasn't damaged. :(

I horrified one of the people campaigning here when his opening gambit was all about the terrible state of rural roads and I said 'never mind that, fewer of us use them, and they are effective speed control', times like this, turn the lights off (and keep them off please, pay attention to the major roads and leave roads like this with only us on it to worry about ourselves.

I got a card from DD. It has two very cute Jack Russell puppies on the front, which are lovely, but the thing that really got to me was the message inside:

Why can't they just earth it now? Earthing a circuit isn't at all difficult.

And why are they telling you not to swing from the chandeliers? Even if they're live, you can't come to any harm swinging from them, but only if you're touching both the chandelier and something else (conductive and attached to the floor, wall etc) at the same time.

Wiring a live wire with an earth coloured wire is actually really really dangerous. Anybody working on the circuit in the future will expect earth coloured wires (green or green/yellow stripey) to be harmless to touch, and a live wire certainly isn't. [X-posted with michaels and others]

Your Dd's message is lovely :) My mum and I have a tradition not to sign, just to put kisses and a question mark. I can still tell my card was from her, so I'm guessing she might where her card came from...

I know at least one of the three other cards I sent arrived, and I think it had the desired effect - spreading a little love :lovethoug

Great night had last night. I went out with a brilliant friend of mine from England who comes to visit once a year. We got thoroughly drunk and chatted about everything.

We've known each other since our very first days as students and we're completely honest with each other about money, women, mutual friends and everything else.

He's been very successful in his career and has easily exceeded his ambition of earning £250k a year by his 40th birthday. Unfortunately, that's driven something of a wedge between him and some of his old mates. He doesn't really want to drink the house red and go to Weatherspoons for lunch but is completely happy to pay for his mates to go somewhere a bit nicer and drink a bit better.

I take it in the spirit that it's meant: we were happy drink beer and sharing a packet of chips in the old days and didn't care who paid. There really is no difference between that and drinking a bottle of $80 red and having a good steak without caring who pays.

I was wondering if you'd find it uncomfortable having someone else paying who you'd known for 20+ years, was happy to pay and who has shared an enjoyment of the nicer things in life through the entirety of the friendship.

I found it rather sad that he's being cut off from some amazing mutual friends because of what I see as jealousy.

I've got music playing to drown out the noise of the wind, predicted gusts of 60-80 mph tonight, we reached 81mph on Wednesday and it sounds much worse tonight.

I have given up on my fence, it has been put back up twice now but I am just going to wait until all these high winds stops...oh and here comes the rain, again! Absolutely smashing against the windows....
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

OH did the perfect, romantic thing for me today. I texted to say I'd just got off the bus at Moorgate (early, because some idiot was eating a burger on the bus, and it was vomit-ous) and he, realising it was wellying down, not only made a cup of tea, but put a towel on the radiator to warm up and raided the chest of drawers for clothes. Bliss is arriving home running with water, and being greeted with a warm towel, clean and dry clothes, and a cup of tea.
Awww. Well done NDB! :T

If I was fully confident that they really did feel the way you describe, and weren't either showing off or secretly grudging it, then I'd feel fine about that. I'd also be happy paying for the beer and packet of chips to spend time with a good friend who couldn't afford them.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

TBH I'm still a little drunk from last night. Drinking martinis at 1am does that to a fella.
