I'm sober and it feels very unpleasant.

That's the most lucid thing anyone's said on here all night. :D

True enough. The big boys are impressive in their capacity to tolerate weather. But I hated landing behind those guys.

Wake turbulence makes tomorrow's weather look tame.

And while terminal controllers like to say they maintain adequate separation for us little guys..... on a busy day, they issue the warning but make us expedite on final anyway.

And woe betide the Captain that refuses the clearance... You'll be punished by 30 mins in a racetrack orbit burning both fuel and your SLF's patience.

Anyway.... Glad I don't play that game any more.:o

Did you used to be a pilot? What's an SLF?

Ouch. My head hurts. I am also very dehydrated despite having had 500mls of orange juice and about 1.5l of water. (only with sad faces)

I've had a bacon and egg roll at the local mall and feel slightly better. I also had my first caffeine since December which has made me feel worse.

I can actually strongly recommend giving up caffeine. I feel many times better for it, mentally. No physical difference that I've noticed and no difference in how awake/tired I feel now, although the month or so of withdrawal wasn't very pleasant.

I've bought an extra 2 weeks holiday this year which is brilliant. Also, Easter is very handily placed as it's the weekend before Anzac Day. As a result by taking 5 days of leave I get 12 consecutive days off! "Awesome", as I would say if I was 20 years younger.

I've been thinking that I might take the train to Broken Hill during one of my holidays. It goes out on a Monday and comes back on a Tuesday. You don't want to miss the return train! Why? I've never been there and I've never been to the Red Centre. Broken Hill is on the NSW/SA border.

Actually I have a vague recollection of that. I'd love to do that. I have children instead. They're about the only hobby that costs more than flying. There was an article in the paper today about a corporate lawyer working 3 days a week. She pays $40,000 net a year for childcare for her 3 kids. That's after the $15,000 rebate she gets from the Government. My missus works 2 days a week and had her working week cut recently from 4 days. That equates to a pay rise for the Generali household.

    Take a lesson.

I highly recommend it, feels like nothing else there is.

But be warned, it's immensely addictive. :)

I gave up on sugar last year, switched to diet soft drinks and sweeteners. Feel surprisingly better for that, but still drink astoundingly huge amounts of caffeine.

Most mornings start with a quad espresso and keep going at that pace all day and most of the night.

Not sure the withdrawal would be worth it for me. I love caffeine.

    What the....

I really need to move......:( I sold back 7 days of my holiday this year as I've never used my full allowance with this employer. Ever.

I've never been there and I've never been to the Red Centre. Broken Hill is on the NSW/SA border.

    Sounds interesting.

Spent some time up around the Vic/NSW border, and Canberra, and Sydney, and then up the coast.

Never been to the middle......want to though.

I thought I loved caffeine too. It turns out that it makes me anxious.

The withdrawal is weird. It gives you insomnia and a really bad upset stomach.

Normally I fall asleep at 10:30pm on the nose. I'd be awake until 1-2am. Then an hour later I'd wake up with Montezuma's Revenge.

As I say, I feel much better for it now.

The bloke I sit opposite buys the maximum 4 weeks extra holiday a year. He is a properly senior person.

The next level up is the board, not some p1ssy director (they're 2 a penny in financial services or perhaps more precisely 2 a million:money:). He runs $40-80,000,000,000 of assets under management depending on how you measure it. If I was asked for a specific figure I'd say $70,000,000,000. That is due to increase massively too in the next year, can't say why and please don't quote.

My boss (2 steps down from the COO) works a 4 day week. My main finance person (a very brilliant accountant, amazing actually) also does a 4 day week. It's quite normal over here. It's expected that you'll work you Arsenal off while you're at work but it's also expected that you work to finance the rest of your life and so you need time to have that life!

    Sounds interesting.

VIC/NSW border. Snowy Mountains per chance? I've been to Falls Creek. I entered a 240km ride up there. Made it a little over 100km before quitting with hypothermia.

Aussies hate Canberra but I love it. It's rather like The Barbican in London: everyone that doesn't live there hates it and those that do think it's amazing! If you have cause to revisit Canberra, Bungendore is well worth a visit. It's a really lovely bush town which isn't annoyingly difficult to get to. It has a couple of really good restaurants too and it sounds like it should be in Harry Potter!

This is what the bush there looks like:

    Very nice.

The northern coast is lovely. So is the Southern coast. It's a lovely place all round really.

I went gliding over the Vale of York a few years back, that was fun.

I plan to give up on working for other people in a few years (3-5) and start a gentle slide into retirement that should see me cease work entirely on or around my 80th birthday. What I do now is too much effort for the money I get so I need either more money or less hassle.

I was thinking that a little light flying might be fun to do with my spare time.

You can qualify over here for what I think is a PPL in the UK and get plenty of change from 15 grand Aussie.

    Turning green with envy.

My industry is all about very long days, 60-70 hours over what are usually 6 day weeks, on call 24/7/365, and 100 hour weeks if a deadline is due.

And nowhere near the money that bankers make.

Albury-Wodonga over to Rutherglen and Ecucha.

I love it. Spent a fair bit of time there with family.

    Yep...

It took a while for it to grow on me, but it really has.
