DH is now interested in the property, it is pretty. I have gone off the idea a bit but maybe we should look at numbers.

Eek. Poor newts being attacked by grubbing mattocks!

To hit a newt with a grubbing mattock you'd have to get within two foot of the newt. Which wouldn't happen. Generally you don't see them at all, they run away before you're near.

Slow worms, however, are dumber and you have to be careful of them.

I can appreciate some of the advances that unions have gained on behalf of their members. However for the most part I feel a consultative two way approach to staff is much better than collective bargaining. And I absolutely detest the firebrand type, incapable of either compromise or walking a mile in my shoes, when they would rather develop personal fiefdoms.

It doesn't matter whether it is Crowe now or Scargill 30 years ago, who benefits long term from their actions?

Most trade unions that I have dealt with are mature and positive in their relationships with employers. This has been at individual case level, large employer level, regional and national level.

Consultation on job losses and change is the fine however changes to terms and conditions in my experience requires collective agreement for large scale employers - I have changed ts and c's for '000s of staff on an individual basis and it is usually better when it is collective. Individuals can be acquisitive, are focused on the here and now, often have no interest in equality (so long as it is not them being treated unfairly), may make great barrack room lawyers informed by the internet through the lens of their perspective .

Trade unions who are successful and relevant in a modern employment world take a view about the greatest good for the greatest number of their members , including considering the economy, and views of customers and taxpayers upon which their members immediate and long term employment prospects depend. They will also operate democratically and transparently.

Just turned telly over. Live on Sky News from Somerset levels - police helicopter overhead announcing:

"Danger is imminent, you need to evacuate to North Petherton"

I was about to say that of course that couldn't be the real car as it was destroyd by a train a few years ago when I remembered I'm being stupid and looking at time as an arrow, the real car could always have travelled forward before it was destroyed to now (or the now that was when PN took those photos) and then travelled back again to get destroyed in the last movie.....

    Nerd!!!!!!! :p

I am back on the information superhighway (proper). I am no longer at the mercy of o2 and reaching the limit of unlimited data!

Got a text and email saying that BT had decided they didn't need to come round on Thursday at all, and that the line would work from then. So of course, I've come home and plugged in the modem to see if it will work today... and it does!

The boiler has decided it isn't playing, but you can't have everything, can you?

    Excellent news!
I'll await your detailed response to the music I sent you.:D

(We can also mutually chuckle at the fact this thread will now explode given this public acknowledgement we've been PM-ing each other!!!!:D)

Given the choice, it's better to be cold with the Internet than warm without :)

There's many an NP female - and possibly a male or two - who are now excited at the prospect of buying a new hat for your impending nuptials.
