    You're almost certainly right.

What I hadn't realized until yesterday was that she'd delayed hospitalization for 2 weeks! It looks like there is some damage to her heart as a result.

Both her and FiL's attitude seems to be that this is stuff that is just happening to them, that they are passengers in life. The knee problems, diabetes and heart disease are all related to the fact that they eat too much sugar, salt and fat. Mrs Generali does exactly the same thing. This is her life in 20-30 years.

Honestly, I kind of know where they're coming from.

As in... sometimes being very heavy seems too difficult a problem to tackle. I know that it took almost dying for me to take weight loss seriously, AND that even so all I could manage for the first year or two was not to gain any more weight.

I think that's the key to this. Not gaining weight. It's pretty easy to lose weight but almost everyone gains it right back with interest. As in, the medical studies say that will happen 95% of the time on medically supervised diets.

I put all my effort into not gaining weight, and only went on mini-diets when I had the motivation, losing a stone or half a stone at a time. And then not gaining weight for long stretches in between.

Taking that approach means people barely even notice you're losing weight, but then they see a photograph of you two or three years back they go

Maybe if instead of trying to get them to lose weight you suggest monitoring their weight and taking a few steps to stop them gaining any more. It sounds easier, and there's lots of proof people can manage it in the medical literature.

Geordie Veep here - no idea how either of those work...

Had a strange experience this morning, read a book on the train and when I put it in my bag to change at Blackfriars it did not remember what page I was on.

I hate TalkTalk and IT, why can't it just work. I am wondering if I can use my old O2 modem router with the talktalk settings.....at home we also have 4 or 5 xp PCs/Laptops, I wonder if it is safe to stick with xp or whether I will have to update/scrap them, either way it is hassle.
    I think....

I admire you for managing not to do that - I would also find it very frustrating to deal with.

No, it makes you (a) human and (b) honest.

Terrible parents are those who pretend that they adore and cherish everything their horrible offspring ever does. Real parents admit that sometimes managing not to chuck offspring out of the nearest window is an effort.

Growing up under your mother's influence, you have turned into just the same sort of encouraging and understanding person that she is. :)

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

What?! I didn't like curry until I went to Balsall Heath. That curry house burned down, I think, or I'd send you there for conversion. That said, we are spoiled with good restaurants.

You must like something in a curry house? It's such a social thing here? It's hard to avoid going for a curry with friends.

Perhaps it is just my circle?

I've been once, with a mate who worked there. I think they took it easy on me. I had some chicken & spinach thing.

That's a particularly silly one, for me, anyway!

    You got: Humanitarian

You are a giver, a justice seeker. You spend more time thinking about others than yourself, and more than anything just want what you’re doing to help someone in some way. Essentially, you is kind, you is smart, you is important. Other occupations: social worker, judge

1st appointment tomorrow/today is at 9.00am. That means I need to leave the house at 7.30 and it's now 4.01am. Having said that I did sleep earlier today, can usually manage well with out too much sleep and tomorrows appointments don't include making any life changing situations for other people (or for me) so I don't feel too apprehensive about my lack of sleep. I may in an hour or two though...

I got Humanitarian, seems there's a few on this thread.

Any body any tips on sleeping?

Another humanitarian here... who'da thunk it?

Sleeping has been an issue for me on and off too.

The only thing that really worked was getting up at the same time every morning without fail, which can be pretty painful at weekends.

I always think if you can't sleep, get up and do something rather than lying in bed worrying about it, as that only makes things worse. The thing to remember is that adrenaline will get you through any important engagements you might have the next day.

On the sleeping thing, seeing as others have mentioned it, any tips other than music?

Actually, I do feel somewhat that Gen/Lydia's conversation bears some impact on my not sleeping. I spent most of friday (or saturday, I now cannot remember) lying there just feeling annoyed/angry/fed up.

Loads of vegetarian Indian food. :) The only problem is it often tends to be very fatty. Even in big standard takeaways....... Bringal bhaji, (aubergine mildly spiced) is delicious of its not hidden under ghee. Also, mildy spiced combinations of spinach and potato are morish..(saag aloo) ..or daal. (Mild chickpea sort of gloopy wonderfulness). All can be eaten with unsliced breads which are either plan or flavoured with things like coconut.

Otherwise....tandoori chicken, is very mild but delicious, chicken tikka too. Korma like Lydia said, or passander, or Kashmir, or biriyani, or.....really, loads of not hot (if that's what one means by spicey ) dishes to try. Chicken tikka masala is barely more spiced and certainly not 'hot' in any way. :)

I don't like food that blows my head off, and since the anti seizure drugs that make spice difficult ( though that side effect has certainly lessened A LOT) I think I'd try any of those......

You have made a few comments like this recently, I'm wondering if the court hearing is stressing you out?

To me, this is one of the great signs of the differences between the genders. Most men (I assume!) would've wondered about saying this. Most women (again, I assume!) are up front about it.

The court hearing has been postponed - I have no idea when to. Probably months - for all I know quite possibly years.

I am not feeling particularly stressed ATM, although I have my moments. Mostly I either feel blank and that I am functioning in a utilitarian way but have no enthusiasm for anything, or else I feel frustrated that I am not getting done what I want to get done
I do also have reasonably frequent episodes of feeling normal, and even of feeling purpose and energy and enthusiasm. They don't usually last long, though, and mainly result in my making plans that I then don't stick to.

Interesting, yet in a way worrying. I wonder if this is why I can't sleep, or whether I'm ascribing the symptoms you describe to myself.
