micheals I read that you felt like it but were going in.
My action was to feel like I wanted to take an unplanned day off too today, and was able to organise it. Sorry if you felt judged it was not meant that way.
Don't worry, no offence was taken, my response was probably more about me feeling guilty for even contemplating the idea. The problem with taking a day of leave is also a guiilt thing, taking a day unplanned would result in a day off 'wasted' in tha tI wouldn't acheive anything on the to do list and yet I woul dhave given up the money that pays for 10 piano lessons or some other such activity for the kids/DW who I already feel don't get all the opportunities they could because we don't earn enough.I think....0 -

Tonight was a bit of a dressy-uppy occasion - we went to a place on High Holborn so much frequented by barristers I know that it's nick-named "the library", so that the clerks in the bad old days before mobile phones could say to solicitors / wives / etc on the phone, "I'm sorry, Mr. Smith's not in Chambers, he's in the library".
Chambers drinks and nibbles therefore demands a certain standard of dress (women) and smartest suits and nastiest ties (men). I wore a dress I'm rather fond of, that is definitely evening only as it's dark grey but scattered with small sequins and has some silver thread embroidery, as well. Might as well make the most of my nice clothes while I can still wear them, another few weeks and this dress definitely won't fit.
I've also cracked out my cream mock sheepskin and furry winter coat, and some knee high leather boots with nice but not ludicrous heels.
After 3 hours standing, chatting and having a great time, I thought I'd call it a day. It wasn't late night thing, really, and there were spicey sausage nibbles appearing which didn't do my stomach any favours.
So I got to the bus stop, and attracted (lucky me!) a nearly but not quite paralytic drunk. He joined a queue of 20-odd people, and homed in on me.
I never quite know how to deal with very drunk, definitely out of social norms, but not actually rude or threatening people. And he was in that catagory. "You're show gorgoush. Isn't she gorgouesh?"
That was addressed to the whole queue. Half of it obviously looked at me and realised the beer goggles were well on. The other half developed an intense interest in their own shoelaces or the chewing gum stuck to the pavement.
"That makesh her boobs all shp--- shp.... sparkly, that dress. Doesn't it?"
At that point, I opted out and grabbed a taxi. I couldn't handle any more conversation on the bus (-:
OH thought it was funny - he said I did look lovely. But somehow, out-of-skull-drunkdom doesn't seem terribly flattering, does it?
Edited to add - there were a couple of other comments he made, but it was all along the same lines (-:
It's always a difficult one isn't it. Are they being genuinely nice? Or is there more sinister issues going on? & how would any kind of response be interpreted?
Sometimes I think about such things too much I reckon...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

DH is hoping to have two uninterrupted weeks off over Christmas. This will be almost unprecedented and was only given a tentative go ahead this week. I think he'll sleep through three of them, because all that time seems incredible. :j:j:j
I'm sorry madam, but we can't deliver your Xmas present/fridge/dvd boxset, because the driver threw a sickie. I'm quite willing to be flexible, my customers aren't though;), not that the type of product we deliver would ever get delivered to a home address....:rotfl:
I'm hoping for two weeks as well, though it's looking like I might have to do a few hours on the 23rd.PasturesNew wrote: »I've never held a child. Thank you for confirming that my assumptions on the matter are correct.

I'm buzzing with book lust ATM. I have told the girl I email with daily I just cannot ATM because I have to read everything ever written. Went to look a price of real books because need real copies of these and.....flipping hevk........hundreds of quid for a book?.
I know those amazon prices go up as well as down but.....gee whizz. Those will be second hand slowly gathered purchases then:(.
My £2 coin jar coughed recently, & I indulged in a book buying spree. I have a big list of books I want. When the jar coughs, I allow myself to buy every book that I can get off the list in good condition or better that is less than £3 (not including p&p).
I've a massive pile of books. I've read a few. I'm looking forward to a good read-a-thon over christmas. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Looks like I'm going to end up delaying buying a new car for the next 2 months at least. Unless a bargain comes up.It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0

A brilliant, brilliant man if you don't mind rude stuff.
Outed Saville in about 1989. Was punched on stage in Canada for pointing out that neither English nor French were the languages that should be spoken in Vancouver as there was a local language that shouldn't have been usurped.0 -
