We've been specifying our new storage heaters.

Pastures, having spoken to the tech bods at the manufacturers 're fire, we've found out that the newer models have thermostatic controls, so you can set to, say 22 degrees. This means that there is a double thermal cut out, so much safer than the traditional ones, as well as more energy efficient. We have specified these to replace old. Will be much happier once they are in.

I had the slightly odd experience of getting a rather in depth description from him over the phone (I was at work too, just nipped out of the office). Should add - it wasn't a running commentary! Just what the consultant had said.

Investigations are following a routine 'well man' check. Told my dad I was very proud of him for actually going and not ignoring the invitation.

LiR, for my age group a prostate exam is generally recomended only where there are changes to bowel habits, pain, blood etc. When you get to 50 it should be regular.

When I had storage heaters, they were the originals, filled with dust, from when the flat was built, in the late 70s/early 80s.

Many people agree that storage heaters aren't much good if you're out all day as that's when they're giving out the cheap heat - but if you're at work all day you're missing it.

I like to turn heat on when I need it, not have to guess the day before and leave it on overnight to charge up. Some days I need none, some days I might want just one hour ... won't know until it happens, on the day, at the precise moment I think "bit nippy"

Although might depend on things like insulation of the house whether that was workable or not. A house that retained that cheap heat would be ok.
