I have no idea why, as they don't fit in anymore and MIL is particularly uncomfortable, but FIL is stuck in his ways and although most of his contempories have either passed or moved away he still insists that he won't move.

It's one of the areas of London, and common to many other cities around the country that would scare the living daylights out of you average Daily Mail reader, but to others it's an exciting, eclectric mixture of so many cultures, sounds and experiences.

But, gang culture is also rife, so it can be a dangerous place too.

I think hip to gable conversions became permitted development about 3 years ago.

This is true/ To buy a house with an extra bedroom would probably have cost £70-80k more. A 2 bed with 1 bathroom roof extension might have come in at £40-50k.

No brainer if you can't afford the higher amount and like the house/area you're in and can't face selling/buying/moving + fees.

It's a horrible place. If you want to live there thn be my guest but I wouldn't. I used to live just up the road from there in Weat Norwood and it's a deeply unpleasant area: crime ridden and violent. Someone got beaten to death with a hammer while I lived there. Awful.
