From the front that looks almost identical to our first house, except minus the paint and the outrageous price tag.:)

    You enter via the kitchen?

The stairs appear to be in the kitchen too. Not good for cooking smells getting to the bedrooms, and not good for fire hazard either.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    Maybe not

Well that's the other problem, but before Christmas I wasn't really thinking about it. Now I will only look at houses on the top of hills without a tree in the garden. By Feb we'll be back looking at flood risks again through pure desperation...

Have you been to view anything recently?

Talking of moving house... My brother is encouraging my dad to move sooner rather than later to somewhere much smaller and sheltered/supported, so that he can move and settle in while he's still got all his faculties and is reasonably able bodied. I can see this would be good for my dad, and I'll be supportive, but... it surprises me how scary I find the prospect of my childhood home no longer being there. :(

Nah - haven't been to view anything this year. Asking prices are getting a bit silly at the moment so anything new that does come on the market seems to be priced about 25% above what houses were selling for in the autumn. There is a house which sold for £690k last April which is on the market for £850k now- you can see from the old rightmove advert which is still online that they haven't changed a single thing. Three bed semis are being listed for more than any 4 bed house sold for last year etc. None of it is shifting but then you wouldn't expect much action in Jan anyway.

Would soup be the traditional thing?

That was my first thought. Those small shrimps are hard to get in Sydney though.

It's unlikely to be soup weather. Aussies eat things like stew in the hot weather but soup is cold weather food only over here.

    Mackeral pate or salmon mousse?

A chicken liver parfait? ( makes meal a bit MEATY......but you know, its light :) )

    ....can you get watercress?

An iced soup? Iced watercress is yum, but iced pea and mint that's very minty is amazing IMO.
