Stilton and pear something or other? Can you get Stilton?

( I don't know what you can get.....I'm always astounded what bil says he cannot get in us now for example). Dh's best friend in Sydney is now vegan. There s not much foody talk any more. I think he lives of wheat grass and tantric sex.

    Mackeral pate or salmon mousse?

A chicken liver parfait? ( makes meal a bit MEATY......but you know, its light :) )

    ....can you get watercress?

An iced soup? Iced watercress is yum, but iced pea and mint that's very minty is amazing IMO.

Chicken liver parfait/pate is on the list although possibly a bit French? Chicken livers are really hard to buy here although I have a supplier. Pork liver is basically unavailable. Lambs liver (called lamb's fry here) is widely available. It's usually at the end of the meat section where it joins up with the fresh dog/cat food section kinda like they're saying, "you can eat it if you want but we feed it to animals here".

I asked for breast of lamb at the butcher once. He replied, "I didn't know you had a dog". Aussies basically eat prime cuts. It's amazing how rich Aussies are actually. They're like Germans but with crap cars.

Iced soup is one of the few things I don't enjoy eating.

We can get Stilton but not good Stilton. Actually a Waldorfy-stilton, pear and walnut salad might be good. Possibly it's a bit challenging for the kids at the table but if they don't like it then they don't have to eat it.

They can pick the pear out. :)

If they never get ensure they never developed tastes........but they can leave it on the plate. :)

I agree. I give the kids what we're having all of the time.

My son eats pretty much everything I do. He has a few odd tastes, for example he won't eat cold roast meat. He gets stuck in to salads, veggies and fruit. He likes grapes and watermelon as much as sweeties (lollies in 'Strayan).

My daughter though would live off meat and processed carbs if I let her. She loves carrots and apples but apart from that we do have to push her a little to eat veggies and fruit.

I'm not that keen on cold meats either. The only cold roast meat I really enjoy is roast beef that's still pink. I don't get why people who eat rare or medium roast beef hot will only eat it cooked to death cold.

I've never heard of that affliction.

If anything I'm happy to eat roast beef rarer cold than I am hot. A local grocer occasionally sells whole beef fillets for about $20 which I'll roast. I generally have the fat end cold and the thin end hot.

I agree. It's really scary over there, and they have posh names for grotty areas, so as to take in the unprepared.

Incidentally, PN, when MIL comes, hopefully only for a few weeks, to join us today after discharge from hospital, there'll be eight of us in the house. 5 GDB-ers, plus MIL, plus my cousin's daughter and her boyfriend are staying temporarily. Plus we have one away at Uni.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
