Hi All
I've just put our old (but working) Miele washing machine on Freecycle and got over 20 replies. I just wondered whether anyone here wants it?
How do you choose who gets it on Freecycle? Are the replies genuine? One chap who picked something up from us was a secondhand dealer. I was not impressed. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

So opportunities to meet/socialise with anybody are very limited.
I need nice, well behaved people, who are happy sitting on a bench for hours with tomato sandwiches.
I'm happy to sit on a bench for hours...but pref not with tomato sandwiches, I'm allergic to tomatoes. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Freecycle is tricky. I've only offered a couple of times and those who weren't polite didn't get a second look in. Impossible to know whether the sob stories are true though...0

Dunno why it happened like that, I had a decent enough social circle at uni but they all just left London when they graduated and that was that really.
I didn't go to uni, so no friends there to talk to or see. However, I do still see friends from school and we enjoy a good catch up from time to time (usually whilst stood outside Morrisons!)We made it! I had the same quandry when I put youngest's Thomas tank engine bed on there....in the end, I went with what felt right in my gut (not very scientific I know) and it turned out I knew the woman who picked it up from the autism parenting groups.
It was for her autistic son who was absolutely obsessed with Thomas Tank, she hadn't put that in her reply as she didn't want to appear too 'needy' but when she turned up and we recognised each other, she let on. The look on her son's face when he saw what it was, was an absolute picture, he was over the moon.We made it! I guess with freecycle the thing is it isn't going to the tip, you can't really know what the person who gets it will do with it. If you are that worried then eBay the item and give the auction proceeds to charity.I think....0

I refuse to buy turkey ham in shops. I mean, !!!!!! is that? Is it turkey? or is it ham?
I have just discovered turkey ham now that DS has given up meat from mammals. I can still do cheese and ham toasties for all three of us.It is ham (rather smoky ham) as far as eating is concerned, but it is turkey from the PoV of DS's ethics.

How many nice people still occasionally scrub floors, like on hands and knees? I cannot find any way to clean floors that us better.
Second part of question how many nice men (or women) have NEVER scrubbed a whole floor rather than just a spot clean?
We've been trying to use the wet floor cleaner for the concrete floors. (Because I am not meant to bend over or keep my head low for long periods of time, and we have a lot of concrete floors), The areas I have scrubbed are notably cleaner and lighter coloured that the bits than have been bissel -ed, steam cleaned or worst of all mopped.
I have scrubbed, but not often. Mostly when cleaning rented houses before leaving, in order to get my deposit back.I have scrubbed, with a toothbrush, the grout in my kitchen. well worth the effort and possibly the damaged nails. I'm hoping I won't need to repeat too often.
My cleanerdoes the floors with mop and bucket every week. With instruction not to let the wood get too wet.
Snap. My cleaner does all the hard floors with a mop and bucket every week. I have lino in the kitchen, conservatory and bathrooms, laminate in the hall, and tiles in the downstairs bathroom and the utility room. I think it helps that the kitchen (which gets stuff spilt in a way that the other rooms don't) is a smooth floor with no grouting for stuff to get stuck in.
I find the tiles in the utility room very cold underfoot if I go in there without shoes. I am looking for a large mat that's not too expensive but will go in the washing machine. Any suggestions, please?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

One group used to put a whole blurb about people waiting 3 days, so that workers get an equal chance of a look in as the layabouts and professional re-sellers. As if, if it is on freecycle, you want rid and quickly.
I once put a fish tank on something similar to freecycle. The first person inspected and rejected! Then someone I vaguely knew asked, so got it. I then had rude emails from about 8 other people about how outrageously I had behaved. One said he was a teacher and 30 children would be deprived as a result of my actions without ever having said he was a teacher in his request email. Half the people responsible thought that I should also deliver. I had made the mistake of replying to people and saying that it was going to a family with young children where one had a fur allergy, thereby inviting criticism that I had favoured her allergy over their causes!
I have also met some delightful people, who were genuinely grateful for stuff, either because they truly believe in freecycle or because they couldn't afford to buy the items new.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. A pair of slippers may be a cheaper option.
Alternatively, how about something rubber that can be hosed down if it gets dirty?
Failing that argos or dunelm mill.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Turtle mats? Not very pretty but wash well and non slip. We use them with the dogs on polished wooden floors because of the non slip nature. They are not attractive and a littl e pricey but indestructible.
Alternatively simply dhurry rug, but slipping might be an issue for kids running through?0
