18.
Instead of just moaning about it, I decided to try the dress on, and at the moment it looks fine (OH says). I look obviously pregnant, but not ridiculous. And it's only a couple of weeks away, so he reckons it'll be fine. I'll still go for some extra bling, though, to be on the safe side!
It's a dress a bit like this - long, rather than knee-length, and not the same colour, but similar in terms of the tapework over an underdress:

Looks lovely NDG, so long as it is not stretched to the max it will look lovely, the fashion is to show the bump nowadays so if you can carry it off it will look like a conscious decision, not a make do thing. Phase 8 dresses are very forgiving and always look classy.0 -
I thought it was supposed to be the 25th anyway?
Don't worry it's a "close to" feast rather than an "on the exact day of" one. Lots of Scots /wannabe Scots/people with no ambition at all are doing tonight and loads more tomorrow and later still.

socialising with people you work with and there's a place for that
Really?
I generally try to avoid socialising with people I work with at all costs.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

They'll tell you "Oh sometimes I get home and my OH's not there!" or "Well, my OH's away this week..." But I know what you mean.
I'm not even really that alone. Had a brief chat with mum. Briefly mentioned work. Was asked if I was worried about my job security  (not specifically,no)
Just not write the same as having someone to come home to/ people to meet up with/do stuff with at weekends. Often the only time I user my vice when not at work is in a shop our singing in the car!
Perhaps all those match.com ads that have been on TV this month have affected me more than I thought!0 -

Sounds complicated.
The trouble I find with socialising is that I just don't like most people.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

you have to socialise with some people from work so that you can slag off the other people from work to people who know what you're talking about.
it really annoys me when OH comes home from work and slags all her colleagues off - i've no idea what or who she's on about. i do that in the pub at 4pm on a friday and get it all out my system there!0 -
One of the things I always try to advise my students when they go off to uni is to be aware this will be the biggest opportunity to make a network of friends you can keep for your life. If they're international students you should try to overcome British reserve (if that really exists) and be as cordial and helpful as possible.
When I lived in Nikksterville I ended up getting to know a lot of Dutch people who I managed to keep in touch with.
Living in London a HUGE chunk of the population is from outside and would appreciate support and company as much as you would.
And to try to keep some connections (easier now there's the internet) and to attend school reunions.
Truth be told, we can get a bit fossilised when we're older and it may not come so easy. You could end up just socialising with people you work with and there's a place for that but it's not enough.
Cheers, yeah I did make some really good friends when I did my bachelors, that I'm still in touch with and see pretty regularly, but they're all all over the country now.
This is the thing, I'm very personable. I'm not used to it being such hard work, and it's not like I'm not making an effort.
Anyway, I'm sure I'll feel better tomorrow!“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0
