Don't tell me I've got it wrong... I was planning on eating haggis (not joking, I've got a couple of slices in the freezer waiting) tomorrow night?
Like music, always happy for beer suggestionsDon't mind doing my own research either though
 (tonight was a Leffe Triple)
It's tomorrow for us. Too knackered on a Friday to do more than wolf down a whoopsied £6 waitrose sushi feast reduced to £1.
Got to hide the rest of the food so the zag family are hungry enough to eat it (only joking, they like it more than I liked jellied eels):rotfl:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
My potential phone a friend ( a sport expert, although everybody looks like a bit of a sport expert compared with me) is the mate who was horrified to encounter a waxworks fo his boss in MadamTussauds (he'd worked for a serial killer, doesn't any more of course).
Oh, how fascinating.. Christie?? I love pub quizzes. I've reasonable general knowledge but rubbish at sport and like most people who ate haggis tonight what I know about cricket I could write on my thumbnail without needing to use small print.
I am rubbish at pub quizzes but once knew the answer to a music question that nobody else in my team knew, and we won by 1 point. To this day I am proud that my knowledge of Cliff Richard songs has had a positive outcome!vivatifosi wrote: »Nikks, you never whinge, even in the face of adversity. Hope you feel better viva and get home soon.0 -
My social life isn't great atm either.
Was supposed to be going out tonight with some friends, but they were starting at their house and then are supposed to be going into town. Thing is they live on the opposite side of the city from me, and last time I went to their's it took me the best part of two hours to get there. So I said I'd meet them in town, but I've no idea (and I'm sure they don't) when they're going.
It'll take me ~45 mins to get there. Haven't heard anything, I texted earlier and they said they were still at the house.
If I set off now it'll be getting on for midnight by the time I meet them (if they even go!) so it's pointless really. I've got ready and everything!
It's part of a wider issue really that I don't get invited to much, as I say I live ages away from that group and can't just pop round to each others houses as people do. There is no one near here. So I miss out on a lot, and what I can do I normally try to make; even if it's a bit pointless going for an hour or two on one night it might lead to something else.
My life's never been like this really, I've always had a good group of good, reliable friends, where ever I've been.
One of the things I always try to advise my students when they go off to uni is to be aware this will be the biggest opportunity to make a network of friends you can keep for your life. If they're international students you should try to overcome British reserve (if that really exists) and be as cordial and helpful as possible.
When I lived in Nikksterville I ended up getting to know a lot of Dutch people who I managed to keep in touch with.
Living in London a HUGE chunk of the population is from outside and would appreciate support and company as much as you would.
And to try to keep some connections (easier now there's the internet) and to attend school reunions.
Truth be told, we can get a bit fossilised when we're older and it may not come so easy. You could end up just socialising with people you work with and there's a place for that but it's not enough. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
I had the opportunity to goto a school reunion last year. No flipping way!
Pretty much all of my good friends are from uni, but then I did spend 11/12 years working/ studying in them0 -

Pffft. Will have to try harder then!
I definitely do whinge. And generally about things I should just get on with. It does help though
Hope the flu passes quickly. Being ill at home isn't fun, but its even worse when you're not in your own surroundings. Hope Dr Tifosi is doing ok too.0 -

Sorry.:o
I repeat myself ad infinitum in the firm belief nobody reads a word I say.
On the good side I'm not a serial killer!
