Some weeks back I was due to view two houses. The agent then said to me that there'd been an offer on one of them and so it wasn't worthwhile me viewing it as it was a bit over my budget .... so I never got to see it. I wasn't overly fussed as it was over budget and it needed some niceties work as it had a showerroom for an old person and not a bathroom for example. Niceties, not essentials.

It's back on the market, £10k less. They never bothered phoning me .... odd how inefficient agents are.
  • I've got a black tie dinner at one of the Inns of Court next month - a Chambers do, being held in one of hte Inns, and a 3-line whip in Chambers.

Very few of my posh frocks will make it round me by then (I'll be just over 6 months pregnant) so I'm in jewellery design mode, to try to distract attention from the fact that I'm going to be stretching an evening dress far more than it was ever intended to stretch (-:

No way I'm spending silly money on either a maternity dress, or a bigger size dress, neither of which I'll get more wear out of. So stretch phase 8 dress and bling it'll have to be!
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

That was certainly my experience with most of the agents that I had the misfortune of interacting with - anyone would think they're supposed to be trying to sell things

I'm pretty sure I'll look terrible, but I'm not spending several hundred pounds on a one-off to avoid it (-:

I'm not feeling very confrontational today. Let's agree to disagree :)

The annoying stuff at work will pass, the assessments or reviews or whatever will soon be done, and nothing more like that for a whole year now. It sounds annoying, but it'll be done and over with soon.

I was recently talking to a vet who worked in the middle east. He said it was not uncommon for the wealthy and well connected to keep exotic pets and that he treated a pair of big cats kept as pets. It was an ethical quandary for him, if he didn't treat, then the animals would get sick or illness would go untreated, if he did, it reinforced the trade in endangered species. In the end he gave up practicing there.

Friend has recently returned form teaching in the middle east. Very wealthy indulged children...who had exotic pets :(

Just saw Robert Preston on the news......

What's happened? He looks twenty years older, very thin. And kinda less geeky?
