Just commented on this thread - Is it the pencil or pencil sharpener that makes the lead break? in 'marriage, relationships and families'.

Am I the only one who would be surprised to find they were talking about pencils?

Sometimes, I worry about my mental wellbeing...
Still striving to be mortgage free before I get to a point I can't enjoy it.

No, you're not the only one. I wouldn't go so far as to say I was surprised, but I clicked on the thread with an open mind as to whether it was literal or metaphorical.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

risky if some does get free. !

This morning DD's horse broke the twine and galloped up over the Common. Took four others with him who were being led to the fields but were let go as it was too narrow/dangerous for those leading to hang on to them.

The upside was that DD realised how fit she is in that she ran up the hill after him.

Once they were all rounded up and back in a field dd thought it best to ride this afternoon as "he was full of it". Wonnder how she got on as it started blowing a gale here a couple of hours ago. The wind in the trees sounds like a train.

Can I share a dilemma ? (will probably delete)

I was on a local history website recently and spotted someone asking for info on the business my late relative ran. It was a very brief message but brought back some happy memories for me so I responded. I just gave very brief details of my (not that close) family relationship and a couple of recollections about the family business. That was a couple of weeks ago.

I opened my emails today to find a reply. The chap said he was in his late 70's and had tried to get information before about this topic without success. He went onto say that he had discovered late in life that this relative was his father, he had never met him nor any relatives. I now realise this is a can of worms because his age means that my relative was already married, and one of his children is still alive and well but aged 83, and she has a big family. We also have another relative who is about the same age but doesn't live close by.

So, what to do? I feel I have to respond to this old chap but how? Shall I ask how he found out x was his father? Who was his mother?

I was thinking of asking the above and then running it past the other elderly relative who is very sensible, thoughtful and intelligent.

The bottom line is that this chap has a sibling he is unaware of, but my relative has a father who committed adultery. At 79 and 83 would you want to know or not? Would it tarnish your memory of your father?

    Any advice?

Phew! DD and I just got in from our walk to the shop in time. We now have thunder, lightning and driving hail.

I wasn't so lucky - the local cinema is a 10 min walk from my house, so a couple of weeks a go I signed up to a subscription-type thing. If I go twice a month then it will pay for itself (and I got 13 months for the price of 12). Gets me out of the house, if not meeting people. And at least if films come up in conversations, I'll have something to talk about!

The lightning was beautiful - turned the sky pink. Was slightly alarmed that there were pretty much zero seconds in between the lightning and thunder though! I think I caught the worst of it, but I actually quite enjoyed it... knowing that I could come back in and get straight into a warm shower :) Needed to wash my hair anyway :o

    ...

    Any advice?

    I would want to know.

My friends have recently dealt with a situation like this, where the adultery was a mere 15 years in the past, and the family has managed to work through their feelings and have integrated the half-sibling into the wider family. Coming to terms with a parent's adultery may be upsetting, but a lot easier if the adultery was 80 years ago than if it was recent. There was a situation like this with elderly people that I saw on an episode of "Who do you think you are", and the legitimate children were delighted to meet their "new" half-sibling - or said so on camera, anyway.

Let me know if you want me to delete this.

    Poet....

First...i think if I were the relative, in sound mind and solid body I'd want to know. But ....I wonder how this person can be so certain? Sometimes things are said that simply aren't true. If they were then, its sad because the party has possibly has a rough end of the stick. At the very least if might be nice that in you there is a connection?

I would certainly take the advice option you have.

I've tried to be bland in reply but can cut if/when required. :)

She says she likes the other colours, especially the blue. I asked if she thought you should paint the chair, and she says yes. I asked what colour, and she says purple. :D

When we eventually get round to decorating the playroom, I forsee disagreements between her and DS. ;)

Hmm, actually I might have some spare purple knocking about, but might be a bit lost against the blue/indigo, no?

All our cheese room chairs are black or real not faux distressed black brown, and I have another couple of black chairs.

I was thinking that chair might take an off white well, or a flakey gold.

She says you can make it stand out against the indigo and compromise between her suggestion and one of yours by doing it in stripes of lilac and flaky gold.

I do love her to pieces. But maybe not as much as stripes. :rotfl:
