Metro Bank was easy. Account open in half an hour. Now they announce they are going to charge for using the debit card outside Europe - totally negating the purpose of opening the account.
It's the ID requirement. I don't drive, so don't have a driving license. I don't fly, so I don't have a passport. I do have all the other utility bills and bank account statements they ask for, so I could open the account with them. Except my name is: mr tomterm8 Veryverylongname and so every company in the world shortens it to Mr T VeryVeryLongName to fit it on an envelope.
And no bank will take a letter or statement as proof of ID if the name on it is shortened (i.e. initials).
Cue messing around asking for a national insurance contribution statement that took 3 weeks to arrive.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Poor you. Mrs Generali got horrible morning sickness with number 2 Generalissimo. She used to have to get off the bus at the Elephant and Castle to puke. I can't say I blame her as it's hardly the nicest bit of Sarf Lunnen.
I puked at Elephant and Castle when I was pregnant. Maybe it's a South London rite of passage.
I can't even remember what I was doing there. I was in the shopping centre, it was early and I think I was looking for a cash point so I could get out of there on a bus.
They've painted it blue now. I still can't work out why it hasn't been bulldozed.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

That DOES look like nice land.
 Questions:
 1. How many poisonous snakes can fit into an area that large?
 2. How likely would it be to be bitten by a spider?
 1. There would most likely be no snakes venomous to humans on that land. The most likely venomous snake to be there would be a red bellied black snake. They're very venomous but also scardy cats. We had one at my son's 4th birthday and she ran away cos that's what they do.
 2. People get bitten by spiders now and again. Nobody in nsw has died from spider bite since 1980 or so
I have a funnel web in my back yard. It's a deadly spider that won't kill me.0

Wow, Viva, well done for calling the fire brigade, I@m not sure I'd have even noticed, let alone gone feeling about my walls for a fire. It sounds very strange indeed. We're glad you're okay and that you have hero firefighters in Inner Herts
I've been thinking of a lovely beef stew all morning, with carrots in it that have turned mushy. I have never had a pickeld walnut. A friend was talking about them over Christmas and I fancy trying them. If I buy some now and put them in my stew, what else can I do with them?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

There are two things wrong with feeling confident in this statement:Nobody in nsw has died from spider bite since 1980 or so
 • Spiders don't know the geographical boundaries.
 • Statistically speaking, that means that, with every passing day, the chances of "today" being the day becomes more likely. 0 0

This is a nice bit of land. You'd get planning permission too:

 That view!!!
 Stunning view....
But I just can't help but think for that price, it should really include a house. :rotfl:“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Sounds very irritating. Are you of Sri Lankan ethnic origin? Sri Lankans I've known have the most impressively long names I've ever come across.Doozergirl wrote: »I puked at Elephant and Castle when I was pregnant. Maybe it's a South London rite of passage.

During my lifetime they've also painted it in red and pink. It looks equally horrible in any possible colour....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Why do banks make it so difficult to open a new account? Sigh.
It's finally done but only after an awful amount of messing around. About three weeks worth of messing around... I just wanted a basic account (one with no credit attached, and no balance to speak of) so when I do online shopping I can't end up getting ripped of for thousands... Just transfer in the money I need and whammo.
 Sounds easy... but nope.
Think it depends very much on the bank.
I don't have a passport, & my driving licence is the old paper version. I don't have any utilities in my name & my phone is payg. Some banks are more strict/ar $ey than others.
Have experienced problems with barclays once. Found yorkshire bank to be ridiculously slow. Have experience of santander & nationwide being ridiculously slow in april, probably owing to isa renewals. Halifax aren't great, but not appalling either. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0
