Why do banks make it so difficult to open a new account? Sigh.
It's finally done but only after an awful amount of messing around. About three weeks worth of messing around... I just wanted a basic account (one with no credit attached, and no balance to speak of) so when I do online shopping I can't end up getting ripped of for thousands... Just transfer in the money I need and whammo.
Sounds easy... but nope.
It's not so much the banks, in my experience at least, more the legislation and regulatory environment they have to comply with as well as the way consumers in this country choose products (I.e. Almost exclusively on price). It would be very expensive for them to comply with anything other than a prescriptive tick box process and as soon as you can't satisfy that prescriptive process and thinking human intervention is required everything goes wrong.0 -
I know it is the Mail, but how beautiful are these pictures?

Probably looking in the wrong place, like the pub...0 -

In fairness, pubs do often have Worcestershire sauce (for Bloody Marys)...0 -

Stunning. (Even though it is the Mail!).0 -
Another reason viva's heating shook me up was that this thread appeared on another board last night and I'd read that one too: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/48649830

On an unrelated note, PN - not sure whether Morrisons is close to you or a special trip but they currently have English muffins on 2 packs for £1... and 50% extra free (so 12 muffins for £1). I've got a pack of cheese and another of cheese and onion to try

I've never read any PKD. I've read a few Asamov books though.
His stuff's thought-provoking (although much of his stuff deffo reads as Cold War fiction metaphors with his return of "New Whole Germany"). And as regards Blade Runner I wonder if we're reading the first articles about the "Off-World Colonies".:)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
I've spent ages explaining to students that comas can't last more than a few days weeks or months at most. You have to exit into recovery, decline or a stable PVS.
Now the newspapers are saying the former Israeli Prime Minister's been in a coma for 8 years. They really mean he's been in a persistent vegetative state. Got to correct this factoid/ misconception next week before the young file it away with "we only use 10% of our brains " or similar tosh. Labour are talking about making teachers be licensed every few years. We speak to a few people each time.
How about the chumps who write the national news. Can we have them tested before they stand up and tell the world that fire's a liquid or potatoes cause earthquakes or simlar drivel!:mad:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
