I know I've asked this before, but not for ages, and it's interesting to see what the new people think, and whether the old faithfuls have changed their answers, so... What other boards do the NP post on besides this one?

I like to read some of the threads on this board, but not knowledgeable enough to contribute, ditto the pensions board. I have a chat on the MFW board with someone, wander onto marriages ( very difficult not to upset at least one person there) and the pet board. If I feel the need to be treat like a pariah, I wander onto the cycling board;).

I've just aquaplaned on the M11/M25 slip and seriously thought at 65mph I was going to lose the car (I drive a heavy estate car, that currently has winter tires on it, so wasn't expecting that to happen)

Back up to Addenbrookes this afternoon, so I will let you guys know how I get on!

    CK

Joining the Runcorn/Widnes bridge during the festive period, I managed to lose the back end of the dog van and did a 180, skidded across and came to rest literally an inch from the crash barrier. No-one else around so I hastily swung round - very 'greasy' road and again I was going slower than normal round the bend.

    Good luck at Addenbrooks.

Actually I saw the lifeguards go in the ocean on Saturday, not sure if I said. V. exciting as I've not seen them at work before. The woman that was saved wasn't even that far out (100ft, perhaps not even that) but was clearly exhausted and only just able to keep her head out of the water. I thought perhaps she'd been stung by a jellyfish or something but I think she was just tired.
There's a UK TV programme on that follows lifeguards and rescues, it quite often covers Perranporth beach in North Cornwall.

It's a NMW job, that's seasonal. While there are some lifeguards in the UK who travel the world and lifeguard in all the countries they are in (typically Aussies), the local/Brits are then on the dole in the winter. One cutback a few years back was that Council employees (as they were then) could use the gym free; but once this lot were laid off they were cut out of getting that access, so couldn't afford to keep their fitness levels up through the winter months.

UK lifeguards are now run by the RNLI.

Having spent about five minutes tryin to work out how to open a new pair of earrings bought from the garden centre sale!) including cutting them off the card they came on I've given up and put on a pair which i think are from new look in 2003. I believe, in respective terms, this might make them vintage.
    Photo...?

Or is Photobucket still a world from which you are excluded?

I need a new windscreen. At some point over the break I recall a car going fast in the other direction and a WHACK on the screen - I couldn't see anything at the time, but yesterday when I got in the car I realised a creeping line on the passenger side. The whack hit in the black border area at the base of the screen on the far passenger side (about 3' from where I drive/look as I'm so small) .... and, since then, a crack has been creeping up.

I need to dig out my insurance documents to see if I'm covered for that and what the excess is. Such a pain in the butt.... never had a new windscreen in over 30 years of driving.

Probably a 75 xs and won't affect your no-claims but you will of course have to declare the claim when getting renewal quotes for the next 3 to 5 years, I have no idea if any companies load for such a claim?
    I think....
  • I've been posting my dinners in the dinner thread on Old Style since I got my camera... not because they're good, but because I can :)

I always click "new posts", getting a cross section ... and randomly pick on things to respond to.

I find myself on the money advice boards a lot, then get reminded how sarky people are about the financial woes of others.

I also ventured onto pets which was nice! :)

Last night it was a debate about Benefits - big mistake! :p

I need to find my way about them a bit more as reslise there is way more to them than just money.

@LydiaJ I can't even imagine having the other parent living overseas. I don't have children myself but it was bad enough when my ex husband lived abroad. Glad some of the boards can be useful. A lot more to this place than I realise

What is the world coming to ?

"I need a new clutch for the car, just popping out to Karen Millen"

    Its crazy isn't it?

They put on coach trips for people in old folks homes to these places to have lunch and a shop and so the insides get bigger than the outside.

They do however sell off plants very cheaply at certain times of year because no one really goes there for plants any more :D

Might be no excess and no impact on no claims. They are pretty good about windscreens.

I damaged mine before setting off to Lydia j's house. I think she thought it was funny we still went. We had to stop at b and q on the way for strong tape and clear polythene because it was inclement I seem to recall.

    The sun!!!!

Had anyone else forgotten what it looked like with the sun out?

The wind is howling in the way it does at our house often, but T least its doing so with the sun out!

Everytime I see a hedging contractor I hope its not mine. I don't want my margins beggared up. I am a heavy user of margins because of my particular grazing practise, but I'm also likely to get a contractor when no one else wants them as a small landowner. :(:(
