I thought that kind of rabbit trail was what the internet is for.

I venture onto other debate board threads every once in a while. I've more or less got the knack of what kind of things are likely to get me flamed, and generally manage not to say them, although occasionally I slip up. Sometimes there are really good threads, thought provoking and interesting, but usually they just descend into mud slinging after the first few pages (or first few posts in some cases). Sometimes I can ignore the mud slinging posts and concentrate on the actual discussion, but it depends how big a proportion they constitute. I have several of the more mindlessly aggressive posters on "ignore", which helps.

I think this board went down hill when the dust settled after the shock of the downturn a few years ago. It's hard to have an interesting debate about the state of the economy when there haven't been any really big changes in it to discuss for ages. Debates tend to be either valueless assertions without evidence, or else stuff that's over my head - I have no idea what M3 money supply is, for example, and haven't got the motivation to learn ATM, so am unable to benefit from some excellent discussions by knowledgeable people like, for example, Generali (who's clever about that sort of thing).

It's not just other threads on here, though. I find I only venture onto other boards occasionally. Every few months I find myself venturing briefly onto the marriage, families and relationships board, but it's usually not long before I remember why I didn't stick around for long the previous time I was on there. It is very handy, though, if I'm getting really down about doing this parenting thing all by myself all the time - it reminds me how difficult negotiating with a non resident parent can be, so I can at least be glad that I don't have to do that any more. (Not that I mean to imply that he was anything like as bad as some of the NRPs featured on the relationships board threads.)

There are friendly boards, though. Old Style is very supportive, I think, and so are DFW and MFW, as long as it's just the regulars rather than visiting trolls. I lurk on those three sometimes if I fancy a change, but their content isn't a good fit to what's going on in my life ATM, so I very rarely post. I have an impression that green fingered is friendly too, although I've hardly ever been there. House buying, renting etc is useful for factual info, and it was invaluable to me when I was dealing with letting agents, and gearing up to buying my first house - I learnt so much, and I'm in awe of the dedication of some of the people who post such detailed advice on such a regular basis. It's not exactly a place to hang out and make friends, though, apart from the "look at this" thread, which DD and I enjoy together sometimes. Techie stuff is similar - I go there when I want help with my computer or something, but not as a place to belong.

I know I've asked this before, but not for ages, and it's interesting to see what the new people think, and whether the old faithfuls have changed their answers, so... What other boards do the NP post on besides this one?

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I've been posting my dinners in the dinner thread on Old Style since I got my camera... not because they're good, but because I can :)

I always click "new posts", getting a cross section ... and randomly pick on things to respond to.

I can hear rain lashing down as well - I keep thinking of the old seafarers' hymn, "O hear us when we cry to thee, for those in peril on the sea."

It's weird hearing wind in our flat - the bedrooms and kitchen all overlook the courtyard at the back, which has 5 or 6 storey buildings on all sides. So if it's windy there, it's gale-force everywhere else!

It's not only windy, it's also wet!

I've just aquaplaned on the M11/M25 slip and seriously thought at 65mph I was going to lose the car (I drive a heavy estate car, that currently has winter tires on it, so wasn't expecting that to happen)

Back up to Addenbrookes this afternoon, so I will let you guys know how I get on!

I like the thread about odd houses that is one board up from this. I also go on the overseas travel board, another friendly bunch on there. Occasionally post on the council tax reclaiming thread because it is something I have experience of.

I do go to the Arms occasionally, but only to DT as I like the debate, much the same as Debate House Prices and the Economy. Like you Lydia I tend to avoid being flamed, but I think that is something that I've learned what to say over a long period of time. Occasionally I lurk in Old Style, but don't tend to post there.

The board I find most scary bar none is the Relationships one. There seems to be a lot of virtual door slamming and huffing and frankly I cba. I wonder how some posters have managed to find a relationship, let alone stay in it. However it does at times make for excellent car crash TV, so I do follow links to the more notorious threads from time to time. Does make me feel a bit of a voyeur though.

I also spend less time than I should looking at bargains. I try to never look at the competitions and freebie boards, as if I got into them, my house would be even more full of rubbish than it already is.

    Aquaplaning kills. :(

Forgot to mention (this is for Pastures). At the weekend, Mr T had 22" flat screen TVs at £79. You said when I mentioned my £65 one that was the sort of price point you were interested in. Haven't managed to match it yet but this is by far the closest I've seen.

I just wanted to warn anyone that is going out today.

I usually take that corner a bit faster than that, so I think low-ish speed and pure luck got that one out of the nasties!

    See you later!

    I've been Money Tipped!
Grim here. Apart from throwing dogs out I haven't braved it yet. I'm waiting for some daylight first. So have swapped stuff and am doing my tens now. I'll do the crazy eye bag thing after outside stuff. All these silly little things to patch me up! :)

This morning we have some left over rice. Normally this is something chickens get but its dog safe so I decided to let the dogs have it. Kiwi was appalled by rice! ( he has a wet food which contains rice so this is especially amusing to me).

Old style is friendly, but also very.....hmm..clique isn't quite the thing I'm looking or, though there are those too. I like old style a lot, but I've had a few 'run ins'. :) relationships board is fun and interesting to me. Primarily because i don't have a work place and its the kind of stuff sometimes work place acquaintances often discuss. I'd say both old style and relationships suffer the kind of problems many places with a high female ratio sometimes do. And that's ok I guess.

There is a lot of (will full ?) misreading of posts or otherwise people whose stated jobs should make them a lot better at interpretation and communication than they are. There are also some tremendously insightful meaningful things, tht can, if you let them, challenge ones view of the smaller more personal world, just like the big questions of the big financial, and political theory ones can ( used to?) here. That's really the motivation for me. Its ALL selfish :). don't mind if the 'big' questions to challenge me are about my own narcism or political belief , so long as I feel I'm self challenging or questioning and occasionally, I hope, developing for the better in some way.

I also post in a long running thread on green fingered where I have made a good real life friend. The vibe is like here, supportive, friendly, caring and real. We're coming close o a big annual celebration there. On the 15 th of jan we all light a fire for one of the members in a very pagan way. It marks the return of the sun into her horizon, it goes out of view for a while in winter.

I look at the housing one but don't post, the family and relationship one and occasionally post, the benefit one but again, rarely post, the CSA one, rarely post, parking one, rarely post.

I tend not to venture down to DT now and one of my old haunts, the disability board, has only been visited twice in the last 6 months.

Missed a parcel delivery this morning but I am not entirely convinced they actually knocked on the door. Attempted delivery at 7.06, I was awake but not right by the front door (I went to the loo about that time) and didn't hear a knock...in my house as it is not the largest 3 bedroom in the world, if someone knocks normally on the front door, you can hear it everywhere!

I've got a feeling they saw curtains closed and decided we were all asleep and as they had lots to deliver, couldn't be beggered to wait for someone to wake up.

    Most blooming frustrating!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
