    Pn.

The lights really seemed to give you pleasure ( hope your gorgeous lamp is still out) .

I wonder if you could think of them as celebration lights rather than Christmas ones and get them out for anything worth celebrating?

We have three sets of lights in bedroom now an decided to leave the sitting room ones as a longer term feature ( now with a huge silk hydrangea).

I use candles a lot, which I know is not for you, but the power of the twinkly light is not insignificant!

    I do love candles.
I use them so rarely now, but the light they produce is great.

I think I will learn over time that I should not venture into other threads and just hang out here....lots of meanies out there!!:eek:

There are times when I am surprised at just how confrontational some threads/boards can be.

When I started posting here (MSE generally) I posted a fair bit on the debate board. A lot less so in other areas - I just used to read. Some of the aggression seemed OTT to me.

It surprised me looking at a few other boards to see similar aggression. One website/forum I venture onto regularly has a series of researchers & published authors posting daily, & their aggression & sometimes childishness amazes me.

Sadly, it suggests a lot about human nature.:(

What would they do with one that ran NE/SW etc

Being Americans they are very practical.

The I 4 runs from Daytona to St Petersburg which is NE to SW (or vica versa), but it counts as an East-West interstate, even though it is not even an interstate.

That's Americans for you. Make up the rules as they go along.

I think this board went down hill when the dust settled after the shock of the downturn a few years ago. It's hard to have an interesting debate about the state of the economy when there haven't been any really big changes in it to discuss for ages. Debates tend to be either valueless assertions without evidence, or else stuff that's over my head - I have no idea what M3 money supply is, for example, and haven't got the motivation to learn ATM, so am unable to benefit from some excellent discussions by knowledgeable people like, for example, Generali (who's clever about that sort of thing).
    ...
I know I've asked this before, but not for ages, and it's interesting to see what the new people think, and whether the old faithfuls have changed their answers, so... What other boards do the NP post on besides this one?

I think (bit political here I'm afraid) that since the coalition formed, they've "encouraged" a number of social divisions to become very enhanced, and have encouraged the ostracising of certain stereotypes within society, & this has spread onto the boards which has made it feel a bit more confrontational.

I don't know if I'm alone in this perspective, but it feels now like the board contains a lot more dogma, rather than actual debate which is what drew me in to posting initially. I learned a lot at first - Gen as mentioned, Inspector Monkfish used to teach me a lot of things too. Some posters (tre, pobby, steviej) were great at opening debates wider. What happens now though feels like a lot of repetition, & there is very little actual discussion.

I do post on greenfingered occasionally, & read the savings/investments board. Very occasionally I'll read another board, but that is usually because circs in my life dictate in need to learn something.

I saw Book of Mormon at the theatre last night. Slightly disappointed, mainly due to have high expectations from the rave reviews.

Anyone know why Leicester Square is fenced off?

Possibly Jerry Sadowitz is offending everyone with his series of shows at Leicester Square Theatre?;)

    I've been Money Tipped!
Having spent about five minutes tryin to work out how to open a new pair of earrings bought from the garden centre sale!) including cutting them off the card they came on I've given up and put on a pair which i think are from new look in 2003. I believe, in respective terms, this might make them vintage.

    Now there's a funny man:

He's partway through announcing a new tour. Closest to me is nottingham currently. I'm hoping he'll do a show nearer to me, but if he doesn't, I'll travel.

His record was pulped in the late 80s because he accused J Saville of being a !!!!!!. I'm sure you know that.

Interesting quote about how TV works:
No. Television is class driven and favours the ruling class, the middle class, homosexuals, !!!!!philes and those who are promoted by one of those groups. In retrospect, I got The Pallbearer's Revue through a ruling class promoter and his ruling class producer friend at the BBC. At the time I was naive enough to believe I got it through talent.

As for the commissioning editors themselves, they are unequivical plonkers who know very little about anything at all. Their faces go completely blank when you present them with an original idea so I stopped submitting anything to them a long time ago. Worse, many of them are now women which means the art of comedy will be completely lost within the next five years.

In the case of The Pallbearer's Revue, the commissioning editor Alan Yentob did not even read the scripts and he went into panic mode by the intense and original mixture of what he saw. This is the same trivial minded wannabe intellectual who makes programs about 'ground breaking Art'. Sadly for me, he was in line for promotion at the time to become BBC controller and my programme was something that he interpreted as a threat to that promotion. so... he created a whole story of me being difficult to work with; the record number of complaints; the negative continuity announcement etc. He further announced that "Jerry would never appear on the BBC ever again" and all of this BEFORE the first show was aired.

He pulled all promotion of the series and did his best to liquidate my name from BBC comedy history. He has long since realised his mistake i'm sure, but most of my career is the story of people saving their incompetent and/ or criminal faces by playing the "Jerry is difficult" card. Nobody is going to stand up to Yentob, and people like him are taught at private school that "apologising is a sign of weakness" so... that continues to end any possibility of my return to the BBC.

Interestingly, if someone like Chris Morris, or even a complete chancer like Charlie Brooker attempt something "controversial" they will be backed to the hilt by their channels because they are of the same class as the public school boys who run them.
