Vent - Royal Mail Parcel Delivery

Those letters do usually come out from RM seasonally, we haven't had one yet I would expect to get it within a week or two.
I'm not sure but I think while they increase staffing levels there are still the same number of vans, so the use of these would need to be balanced between the regular post round and anything additional. So perhaps your delivery was done in a van which had been used for the daily post round and not available until that time to do extra packets.
I agree ringing the bell 10 times as you describe is excessive which is why you should complain to RM.
The increase the vans, usually with hire van(in DOs)
The dont increase staff numbers
usually its a case of up the part timers hours(if they agree)
get full timers doing night shifts to help sort
have some staff removed from standard deliveries to do packet duties
you then have to balance this out with cover to ensure every delivery is covered
also dealing with increased packet traffic on those duties
You also have to ensure the callers office(parcel collections) is covered
also covering increased collection if the DO covers those
its not an easy balance and requires a bit of luck on the mail volumes/flow vs staffing levels
its not a free for all and budgets are still in effect with a standard year on year 5% reduction0 -
Just because you find something acceptable, doesn't mean everyone does. I know lots of people with children who would be equally unimpressed with not only the timing but the conductor of the delivery driver.
Back here in reality, I will fire that one right back at you.
Just because you find something trivial unacceptable does not make it so and does not mean everybody else does. Put a notice on your bell saying do not ring - you are more than happy for them to take the parcel back to the depot and you will pick it up some other time.
As I said, for goodness sake get real, do you have nothing better to whine about?35, semi retired, sun, sand, sea, life is good
When you are done moaning remember that there are people who would love to have your standard of living!0 -
Im amazed that this warrants a space on a vents thread.
Round here the children are still knocking on each others doors to see if friends are playing at that time.
Its totally unrealistic to expect no one to knock or ring early evening.
If one of my 'friends' insisted I give notice that I wish to pop round Id be really insulted.
Just the last couple of weeks Ive had Asda, a catalogue deliverer, a local charity, neighbours children, a plumber getting the wrong house number, all after 7.30.
Its the real world, its normal.0 -
Sod off! I think it's extremely rude for someone to turn up unannounced at 7:30pm in the pitch black, hammer on my doorbell, and have driven off in the 10 seconds it takes me to get to the door!
And yes, it is common courtesy. After 6pm, unless forewarned, I don't expect visitors.
If a friend is coming, they call/text first, although rarely come at that time due to kids being in bed etc.
If a company needs to deliver late, that's fine. When ordering an item it will say delivered by X. If it's a company like Yodel etc, I know to expect delivery until 9pm, and know what day the item is due by the tracking information.

Perhaps the delivery driver was warned about about an angry woman at your address and was told to knock, drop and leg it.:rotfl:0 -
Last night I had a parcel from YODEL at 8.45pm, I know, the op would have thrown a fit, I politely thank the guy for delivering so late on a Saturday evenng and chatted for a few minutes, turns out one gut on the route didn't turn up for work, and another's van broke down. I'm now happily playing with my new tablet, instead of having to wait til Monday.
Anybody that thinks 7.30 is unreasonable should pay extra for a mniminated time delivery, plenty of places use carriers that offer this.0 -

aye, many a time I bit my tongue at getting maligned for being 'late',
where the reality was if i wasn't out on overtime,they wouldn't be getting a delivery0 -

After 6pm is dinner time, kids bathtime/bedtime.
In your house maybe. But not in everybody's.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
Actually, yes. I don't expect any company that hasn't forewarned me that they'll be coming to start hammering on my doorbell at 7:30pm!
In fact, the bell going at that time of night shook me up as it was. Friends/family always text first, especially after 6pm, and the only other times I get a visit after that time is either a) when I order takeaway or b) when I have ordered a parcel that's delivered late (but still within the courier's usual hours). In both of these cases I'm expecting someone and will keep an eye out for a car arriving, and will get to the door usually before they ring the bell. If I don't, it's not usually an issue as they ring the bell once and wait.
With regards to the bell, it unfortunately can't be changed. It's hard wired in and is on the same switch as my smoke alarms, so I can't just turn it off at the fuse board, and there's no way to just turn it off. Don't want to meddle with the electrics as it might get me a telling off from the HA.
As a rule, I shouldn't have to have a sign up about not ringing the bell as I would assume it would be common courtesy not to repeatedly press someone's doorbell after dark with them not expecting you. The only people usually rude enough to do that are cold callers, and I have a "no cold callers" sign up.

Truepat Apparently you and most other people are missing the point that my biggest issues were 1) the way the bell was rung. If you must ring the bell at that time, why not ring it once, why ring it repeatedly?
2) how the parcel was just left on the doorstep and the driver had driven off before even checking if anyone was home.
No, I don't have anything better to whine about. It's a board called Praise, VENTS, and warnings. If you don't like it, pop off over to another board.
swingaloo round here it's NOT normal. The only callers I ever have after about 6pm, I know are coming.
My friends don't have to give notice if they're coming round at a reasonable hour, but they do know to double check when to come round after 6pm due to kids bath/bedtimes (my sons are 3 and 2), dinner time (my husband and I eat later on due to him still being at work when the kids eat dinner) and if I have any other plans.
I'd be a bit irked if someone popped over at 8pm and expected to come in as I'd usually be cooking dinner, having some time with my husband and going to bed around 10.
Perhaps I'm alone on here in wanting my "me" time after the kids are in bed, but all of my friends with children are very much the same.
Other than the driver yesterday, I've not had anyone else ring my bell after dark without me expecting them.
Even on halloween, all of the children round here were finished by about 7.
Nobody will knock on my door after 7:30pm asking for my children to play out because they're 2 and 3, and I'm not irresponsible enough to let kids that age run the streets.
im-lost if I'm aware a courier will be delivering up until a certain time, and I'm expecting a parcel, I have no issue. I'm fully aware that when ordering from somewhere that uses YODEL as their courier, then I can expect my parcel any time up until 9pm, and I'll keep an eye out.
Also, most couriers ring the bell once, not 10 times in quick succession.
When I order something to be delivered by RM, I expect it to be delivered fairly close to the "latest delivery time" they advertise, which is 3pm. 4.5 hours after that is a bit of a joke.0
