Well you don't sound like you are a friend of this couple.
who is toosay, they won't buy in the future, either the council house or another? Many ppl stay in a council house untill they have saved enough.0 -
The whole idea of council housing is that it is secure. With privately renting you never know when the landlord is going to want to sell up or have you evicted for something silly.
It seems wierd that theres another thread somewhere on this board maoning about the low class people who occupy council housing and in this thread there is someone moaning that someone who occupies a council house is to high class for it. Seems council tenants can't win (and no I am not a council tenant).2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -

Ok, sorry.
The tenancy is usually for life unless you stop paying your rent.
So you are legally allowed to stay there all the time you pay rent (or this is covered by benefits of course) - no matter what your financial circumstances.
In some cases our council has approached older persons whose families have left home and grown up to consider whether they will move to a smaller premises and offered to pay for the moving costs. They are under no obligation to move and can say no without any repercussions.
However I don't know of any council requesting that you move out because you have now got a good job.Newlywed at the point I joined the forum... now newly separated0 -
But who are you to decide who can and can't afford it? If you think they are lying to the council, report them, get them kicked out, make them lose their home, jobs etc. If they are not lying to the council but winding you up, you are going to feel pretty daft.
I have illustrated there finances if they were to rent privatley, i am deciding as any other sane person would that if you can save £755 after bills and rent then you can afford to rent/buy privatelt.
If you think they are lying to the council, report them- but a syou have all said they arent doing anything wrong, they have the house so will never be evicted aslong as they pay.
make them lose their home- and pay the same as the rest of us rather than getting a cheap deal of the council, wouldnt be a bad thing.
I know they are not winding me up.0 -

It doesn't work like that!! How many council houses do you see, with 2 cars or more in the drive? So because they are earning they should be kicked out? council housing is an affordable way of renting. Not based on what you earn.0 -

135k for a 3 bed flat. 3.5 x 28k = 98k.
with the housing market at the moment it is the wrong time to buy. I certainly wouldn't risk it.
