£28k is not enough to buy a house with these days - it is enough to buy a 2 bed flat
Blimey, flats must be cheap in Berkshire then! The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10

But you said they were claiming housing benefit?
How do you know exactly what their outgoings are?
I am very close to these two people and we have discussed it at length
They do claim housing benefit and child benefit fo rth ebrother who is under 18 i think thats only about £17 a weeek though.0 -
That means they are the brothers guardians. Which was probably the reason they got the house in the first place. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10

rent =£600 in a council house? you do seem to know a lot abt this couple, it's not jealousy, is it, making you ask these questions? The right to live in a council house does not go on your income!!
£600 is if they were to rent privately, i was illustrating they could afford to rent privatelty
I know them very well about 5 years. No its i dont understand why people who can afford to live privately dont.0 -

They may be pulling your leg with regards to finances, I don't know many people who reveal their credit rating and all income/outgoings to people, even close family! The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10

Why should they? Maybe they are not ready to buy, i private rent, and would not recommend it to anyone, no security.0 -
When you take a council tenancy - it is an Assured tenancy so that means it is basically for life unless you breach the terms (ie don't pay the rent).
How is it abuse of the system if you stay there within the terms of the tenancy you have legally signed?
If you rent, you may have to move every 6-12 months. Council housing tenancies mean you don't have to do that. In some cases it can also pass to those living in the house if you die so adult children living at home could still have a secure home on the death of their parent.
That's the way the system is set up. There is no clause in the tenancy agreement to say you have to leave if you can afford to rent something else!
Thats what i was aksing..for information0 -

But who are you to decide who can and can't afford it? If you think they are lying to the council, report them, get them kicked out, make them lose their home, jobs etc. If they are not lying to the council but winding you up, you are going to feel pretty daft. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all.
