apple muncher I can imagine teaching MFL is as tricky as teaching science, and definitely no room to wing it.

I think I will make myself a schedule and hopefully it will help me see where my spare time is.

I have a real respect for you, having a child and teaching must be so full on! and I am complaining about not being able to manage just myself and my work! Sorry, I must sound awful :(

Well I have managed to sort out a shopping list for this week but looking at my chart its pretty much a 5 week month so I have 4 weeks to cater for. I know many folks have to manage on a lot less and tbh I would be happy to live on pasta for a few weeks but DH is quite particular, or maybe I should just make him suffer for going over budget *evil laugh*

Oh and my chart is looking ace, I need to get DH to add his bits on there but I'm not holding my breath. I did take a photo but i don't know how to upload it.

Hi NSK *waves* good to see you back :-)

My inlaws are looking to come over for NYE, they have decided DH and I are to go out but we don't really want to because he is working NYE AND NYD and I find it is so unnecessary, overpriced and overhyped for what it is.

    What about you?

Evening! A ninth NSD to report. Not 15 but closer... I shall have to be very strict next month to meet the 20 challenge! :D

MrsGSR- I'm not sure I could live on pasta for a few weeks as I'm not very imaginative at cooking it, but I could quite happily have a veggie existence for a bit. OH, on the other hand, is exceedingly carnivorous, and I'm trying to con him into eating more veggie food! Mainly by neglecting to mention the lack of meat until he's digging in. Perhaps you could con DH into pasta by... um... disguising it??

NSK - We are having a fairly MSE night in, watching TV and drinking some very nice beer we've been saving for a special occasion. It would be more MSE if I cooked, but OH has bought some nice and easy, chuck-it-in-the-oven stuff from M&S for us to feast on instead. :j
I used to love going out at NYE, until I realised it was more crowded and twice the price of a 'normal' night out! Must be getting old... :rotfl:

  • Welcome back NSK.
A night by the tele for me too. Nothing special really.
I like the idea of being in front of my log burner and having a cosy night in and saving money at the same time.
I'll be making sure all my finances for January are in the right place and starting the New Year off as I planned. I also want to do some planning for the year ahead regarding costs for the M.O.T., insurances and birthdays.
20 NSD will need some careful planning and a chance to use up all the stuff in the house. My usual downfall is running out of milk and having to go to the shop. I must buy smaller cartons of milk and freeze some. I've never been a fan of the UHT stuff but I might try it again.
I'm going to try and see where I can reduce the food budget this month and eat what's in the house already.
Looking forward to starting the next challenge too.

  • Good Morning!

Third day back at work after my little Christmas break at home.

Was expecting to come back to madness but things seem to have ticked over fairly well.

I was going to try and get up to 18 SFD's by not spending tomorrow, but all this talk of staying in for NYE with some treats has got me craving some mozzarella sticks. So I'm going to bob to tescimos tomorrow after work and hope that there are some left.

Then when I get home I can put my change in my terramundi and add the notes to the "Janus" money.

I spent an hour or so setting up a year long spreadsheet yesterday. A tab for each month and a summary tab. When I get a bit more time for it I am going to add some graphs to compare my budget spending each month.

I've added some more categories this time, rather than just lumping everything into 'Entertainment'. It's all well and good but I then don't really know what each spend is for, when I check my app.

The new superduper spreadsheet has a section where every purchase is itemised, food shopping by product, other shopping by individual item too.

I've also added in a column to take away discount and or vouchers that I have. Which reminds me, after buying a bottle of champagne as a last minute gift when one went missing, I have a voucher for £8 odd!

I'm debating using some savings that I had actually forgotten about, DD goes out each month without me even thinking about it, to either pay off more to the credit card, or put the amount of my SO's and DD's into my current account so that I can do that month ahead thing that Abundant mentioned.

I am also going to take the plunge on NYE and transfer some more to my credit card, paid £550 to it on Friday after pay went in, and do as NSK always says and pay debt first and then live on what's left. I know the money will be left because I am budgetting now, but still feeling a little wobbly about it.

Shared the "Janus" challenge rules with my new OH and she was all for it and is going to support me with it.

I'm not in mega debt like a lot of you, it's more from being silly and not facing it, but i am inspired by how well you have all done and am determined to get it all sorted this year. Not only will I not have any debt but I am averaging £400 to the CC, which could be going to my house saving fund. It's a no brainer really!!!!

Mine is exceedingly carnivorous too, he is a very traditional meat and two veg eater and a pile of potatoes where as I(Having been bought up in a predominantly vegetarian family I do like to experiment with food) will make the best out of what we have.
Maybe if i buy orzo he might think it's rice? Even so he isnt a big fan of rice or cous cous either! He would rather have roast dinner every night.

  • Morning all. Sat sorting out our spreadsheets for 2014! gosh it seems like all i do is play around with calculators and spreadsheets these days! Makes me glad of my computer lessons at school learning how to use Excel! lol.

Just paid £5.26 off to the credit card! I've got 2 E-savings accounts and have set one of them up as my Apptrailers account (all money earn from that app will go in there) and the other is for any pennies on my main account to go in. So when I've been shopping, If my account is sat at £31.27, I will put the £1.27 into saving. Hopefully this will work!

Going to empty my penny pots tomorrow and start fresh in January! We have 2 for us at the moment. One has silvers and the other is coppers. My daughter has a big one and I bet there is at least £50 in there. She gets loads of pocket money from grandparents and other family so she always puts it in her pots.

Can't wait to start again in January and take it more serious this time. We are awful for buying a takeaway if we don't fancy anything we have in so I will be making sure I just cook something before OH gets home so he has no choice but to eat it ;) hehe!

If I don't come back before tomorrow evening, Happy new year to everyone!! xx

Goals: Save £500 for emergencies, Save £200 of Amazon vouchers for Xmas, fix my holey clothes!
