EPIC FAIL IN DECEMBER - sorry. I am hunting out Janus right now and will achieve the targets if it kills me!

You did NOT fail in Dec you successfully found one way that does not work for you :j

I have to say that as I too successfully found a way that did not work for me

I am currently on 11/15 SFD's  under budget on Grocery shop :T have not made food bank donation (will double up in Jan) lost the plot in taking lunches to work in the last week before Christmas  BUT I did manage to only go on one social gathering which was free :T All the rest of my socialising has been at people's homes which is free :money:

Can I count December (my first attempt) as a practise month :D

    Janus Challenge here I come.

NYE is going to be spent at BIL's for dinner. He's a great cook and we always have a great time.

    Happy New Year everyone

Oooh hollieinbloom, good idea for setting up payment from apptrailers to an esaver.
My bank does this thing called save the change so if I spend £19.90 on something 10p will go over to the savings.

  • Welcome back Kat!

We, like most of us on here, are having a quiet one at home this NYE, nice homecooked food and a few drinks from the stash we have in the house already... Cheap and cheerful.

Have woken up with a rotten cold this morning though, which is not good, and I might head back to bed with a lemsip soon :(
Calling I hope you got to the Docs? Get well soon - hugs.

To cheer myself up we fed the debt monster his monthly dinner (sorry NSK we do still do this at the end of the month, not the start, due to two different pay day dates and fear of unexpected vets bills etc) and so I have updated my sig to reflect that (drumroll) we are now under 20 grand in debt!! woo hoo! (celebratory jig). I know we have a long way to go still, and we have been very lucky in how much we have been able to cobble together between us each month to pay off so far, but I am feeling quietly proud this morning and have a little glow of hope that by this time next year we'll be millionaires. Er, no, I mean debt free.

Anyway, back to bedfordshire me thinks...

Can't wait for January and getting back to real austerity (who would have believed such a thing would have come out of my mouth 6 months ago?!)

  • GOOD MORNING!!! :j:j:j

I am at work and we are on with a skeleton crew so no work for me at the moment... :T:T:T

CEW you post jumped out on me first so I wanted to say YES as this is a first month for you and many other PLEASE don't beat yourself up about it. It's a massive learning curve when you realise what you should and should not be doing - but the time it takes for that mentality to kick in and manifest in behaviour is generally 21 days - so a month of practise is okay. You just need to hit the ground running come the 1st...

Which is why I will be staying in my (empty) house on NYE. The LL and her boyfriend will thankfully be out and it's my aim to be in - with my diary, the Janus Illusion kick off (hopefully timed to hit at 00:01) and my new personal diary.... it's a mental thing for me. No madness, no sore feet and no annoying drunk people. Just me and Mog welcoming in what will be an amazing year - the year of me living for me!

Calling glad you are dosed up with drugs and I hope you get better asap! Even better that you are have smashed your target - so happy for you! Whats the plan for 2014??

TiptoesDB - don't worry about paying at the end of the month. I say pay it at the beginning for those who have no will power (:rotfl:) if there is money sat in their account - as long as you know there is a certain amount that you want to pay off each month and you pay it then that's great - its the act of getting it paid asap that helps some people ( me)... and a massive congratulations for getting under £20k.. Whats the plan for 2014??

Lillian - explain that comment - how do you think you failed..??

Hollie - you know spreadsheetary love is ok here. We all love a notebok/spreadsheet/app of some sort and I think it's important that we are able to keep on top of things and adjust them accordingly...

Speaking of which my CC is now up to about £551 which is annoying but all accounted for. I have precisely £.36.68 in it and it's payday tomorrow.... I will pay my new landlord £350 and transfer whats left into my account and await my mother's deposit of £140... this means at least £1100 to savings - it's a good feeling.

Think I might go play with the figures now............:T

SFD number 20 for me as I haven't bought anything since the 23rd. I almost failed on Christmas day. I had to work, it was a killer leaving the house to go to work, but the shift was ok. A colleague, had brought in a buffet and bought us some presents. I was craving a cold fizzy drink from the vending machine, but snaffled the leftover fizzy from the patients Christmas lunch.

I worked last night and the night before, I am so tired. One more night shift to go and I am off for NYE and NYD, yippee.

It's most important for me to spend NYE feeling, optimistic, determined and happy, no of which my current job embodies. It is most important I am NOT at work answering call bells, dealing with bodily functions, cleaning up after the lazy day staff, trying to deciper my manager's cryptic emails, doing the supervision of a non-straightforward-I don't-have-any-problems-I love-my-job subordinate. Dodging being hit by an aggressive patient with behavioural issues that no-one will admit to. So I will be at home, watching something I have recorded and drinking my £6 Prosecco, I will have spent the day trawling the net for something inspirational and motivational to set me off for 2014. Three things I know for sure, I don't want to do any extra shifts at work for at least 6 months, I need a break. I will be debt free by June, and by the end of the year I will have savings.

I did want to go shopping today if only to use my T@sco coupons before they expire at the end of the year, but I shan't bother the weather is awful and I want to sleep. I will have to go tomorrow, I need to save as much as possible so I can become debt-free on target for June 2014 and then save!.

I have done the thing I have been dreaming of...I ventured over to the Savings and Investment Board and joined the Save 12K in 2014 thread(Only a lickle target of £4000 to be going on with). As I still have circa £3500 to pay off, more with interest. I will save from the middle of the year. I desperately want a flat deposit.

I love looking at my posts, not because I love looking at my posts, I love looking at my signature, what a sweet number that is only going to get smaller!

Gosh Moneymash you really deserve these next few days off. I hope you get lots of rest and come up with inspirational targets and plans... your sig looks good - well done you!

Thanks NSK - we are very good now and despite our history we don't spend the money that sits in the current account unless we need to as I get very protective of it and dream each night of the end of the month when we move it over to the CCs etc. Plans for 2014 are to be DF by sometime between Oct and Dec 14. The month after we achieve this we will treat ourselves to a holiday and any bits we desperately need by then (work clothes etc), then after one month off we start the big 'deposit' save so we can start to think about buying a house in a few years time hopefully. That's the plan anyway, let's hope nothing bad comes along to scupper it! In plans not related to money, we aim to both get fitter and healthier again, do more charity/ good deeds work, DH needs to make some decisions about his career, I will just continue trying to be better at mine, and we will both think more about adoption, which is our current possible grand scale longer term life plan.... phew, I think that's it, for one year! what's anyone else got planned?

I just gave up half way through because I knew I wasn't going to make anywhere near target and also I didn't have good internet access from the 19th onwards so knew there was no one to keep me on the straight and narrow.

But like every other January, I'm ready for a new start!

    Hello again,
A spendy day for me today. DH was ill this morning so he hasn't gone to work so I have had to do the shopping. Came in at £37 for the week but I forgot teabags, it was REALLY busy and people were dithering and I do so hate a ditherer when I am shopping.
I also treated myself to some slipper boots that I had been eyeing up for ages, not only were they priced down but I also got staff discount so I saved almost £10 on them. I needed a new pair, I had the last pair for 3 years and they were starting to slip off and be a bit of a risk, I used my Christmas money from my nan.
