  • Right, where was I? So.. Xmas eve was SFD 13 for me :)

M woke at 8am on Christmas morning which was very civilised. He loved his presents :) The pile looked huge because there was a new sledge :D My BIL adopted a WWF snow leopard for him and his main pressie was the kindle fire all of which were proclaimed the best presents ever. There was also books, pjs, t shirt, chocs, a game, a jigsaw, skylander figure, a recorder, chocs etc. A very lucky and very happy boy. All doubts as to the reality of Santa are gone - it was the carrot crumbs on the drive that did the trick :rotfl:

I has some jewellery, slipper boots (soooo comfy and warm) and a cd from M (and his dad). I got a sat nav from my mum. Notebooks from my best friend (I love new note books) and vodka from my BIL :D Hubby and I have ageed to buy annual family membership to twycross zoo for each other which we go and get at the end of next week (weather permitting - it is foul here today, rainy and windy).M is desperate to see the snow leopards. The zoo is about 45 mins from where we live and I thought it would be nice I be able to go anytime we like for just fuel costs and a picnic. They are open all year apart from Xmas day and if we go more than 3 times we are saving money, and it is a good cause.

The rest of Christmas Day was spent mostly playing with new stuff and eating! We had a cooked breakfast for brunch and then visited mum in the afternoon. She was asleep in her party hat after her dinner and a glass of wine when we arrived. She smiled at her flowers and said 'you shouldn't have' :) she beamed at the teddy bear we got her and also the red fleecy blanket. She was cleary pleased to see us. I told her about our morning and then she dozed, cuddling her bear. Not many more words but in the circumstances the best I could have hoped for. We has our dinner at tea time and watched Pirates of the Carribean 3. Xmas day was SFD 14! All good :)

Yesterday was a chill out day. Pjs until tea time! More playing, eating and telly. Then out for an Indian buffet for tea. Lovely stuff. Early night all round.

Managed to so far avoid the sales. Had a brief look online but don't really need anything and no gift items stood out. Am impressed at my restraint :T

Right time for breakie. Enjoy your day. Looking forward to some planning for January over the next few days.

  • Mrs GSR - defo count your SFDs. Plenty of opportunity for online shopping nowadays even when shops are shut!

Should also add that we used to do the next sale though only once have I gone at 6am and queued! When M was smaller I used to get loads of clothes half price even going later in the morning, but last time didn't do very well so stopped bothering. Better for younger kids I found.

    Morning everyone!

I still haven't cught up on this thread yet, lol. Big hugs to all those feeling poorly though. My youngest also came down with that awful cough. Poor mite is happy because of the season, but is slowly on the mend. Mrs GSR-you must be exhausted! Your little one has had a rotten time first chicken pox now the cough-hugs to both of you :)

I was considering trying my luck for food on the cheap today, but feel too lazy :( I've decided to stay in, so I don't end up spending on something not needed, because it's there, as opposed to it be a bargain. Well done on the bargain turkey, Lillyana :T

Well I've had 3 NSD's in a row, I need to count them all up it total.

Well enjoy the rest of the day everyone and good luck. :)

Haha Apple Muncher, I usually cringe at the thought of sales shopping and would watch people queuing on TV at crazy o clock in disbelief! I thought I was bad enough setting my alarm at 6 a.m so I could call the store to reserve my LED lit palm plant and dodge the crowds! And then I found myself queuing alongside them when the phone lines didn't open til 8! :rotfl:

I have never queued up for the sales before and my goodness what an eye opener it was! There were hundreds of cars in the car park at 6.30 a.m and no parking spaces available.. There were parking tickets on cars that had stayed beyond time limits.. People laden with baggage.. Trails of clothes strewn in the long, slow trek to the tills as people had second thoughts about their haul.. One person had spent £700 on clothing alone!

While I stood (snoozing on my feet :p) in the queue with my prize palm plant (a malfunctioning palm plant unbeknown to me ) I pondered how many of the people I had queued alongside and joined in the bargain hunt were actually debt ridden.. I wondered how many bought things they didn't need because the items were there in front of them and they were cheap as they were pulled along on a frenzied wave of panic buying.. I wondered how many people had selflessly given up a nights sleep on Christmas/ Boxing night to queue at 1 in the morning in order to buy good quality labelled clothes for their family, which they would otherwise not be able to afford at any other time of year.. I also wondered how many had been MSE and had planned and saved throughout the year ready for the sales expedition, with intentions of keeping goods or selling them on...

All this brain activity at 7 in the morning! :rotfl:

I'm orf now to make a cup of tea if you'd care to join me

  • Good Morning Hobbitses.......

What a day! Raining and pouring and wind and howling... all through the night as I was wrapped in my very warm duvet squished up against the radiator...:)... and it's still madness over here as I am sure it is everywhere.

A pheasant visited our garden this morning.. he comes to eat every morning and we were glad to see him again because it means he survived the local boxing day shoot. AND they were so close to our house as well...#naughtyanimalhaters.. so seeing him in all his fat glory (Granny says he would make a good few meals...:(:(:() wandering around the garden with his smaller feathered friends stuffing their faces was lovely.. although he is still there sheltering himself...

CEW hope your chooks and pooches are ok. I wanted to let ours stay indoors all night and he clearly didn't want to leave.. My dad had to pick him up and he is a massive labradinger.. I got a photo of him looking rather forlorn at being chucked out so if I can blur my Dad's face I might post it on FB for you all to laugh at....:T:T:T

Pheonix - what a palava? How awful for you to go through all that only to find the blinking thing doesn't work!! Glad you got a refund though. Yes it would be fun to ask people instore why they are there... wonder what the answers would be..?

Sorry I can't stop long... needing to go into town in about an hour and it takes that long to get me ready...:rotfl:... and theres fighting over who doesn't want to drive me cause the weather is awful - NICE!.. next time I will hire my own car.....humph!!!

Here have a picture of Mr Pheasant until I get back to write more....

Just read this, you can't believe how stupid people can be if they take out a loan fully knowing they can't pay it back then it's them being stupid. And as for the toys for her kids surely if you are broke you buy smaller things. I personally don't celebrate Christmas but we plan when when we are going to buy our kids presents and budget and buy according to how much available funds we have.

Makes you mad that she thinks this is other peoples fault and not looking at herself to blame in any shape.

Sorry rant over :) when you read on here how hard people are trying to get out of debt it makes you all the more annoyed.

Anyway hope everyone has a nice day and these winds settle down without too much damage being done.

I can't believe that. What a joke. Sorry, I just don't understand the logic behind people sometimes.
Don't get me wrong, I overpsend at xmas... but do a 3yr old and 8yr old honestly need a new tv and dvd player each and a new bike and "hundreds of presents"??

When I was younger I was happy with just one of those gifts for my xmas (although it was vcr not a dvd). Don't get me wrong, we were spoilt rotten but there was only one big present and then little presents like clothes, books, stationary, etc. Basically I got that and classed myself as spoilt, kids getting all that make me feel like I had a deprived upbringing.
    ;)

Has anyone seen the latest advert for wonga?? is it just me or have they now stopped saying anything about the APR on their advert and just tell you to read their website carefully. Con artists.
    :(

    Sorry, ranty rant from me.
    :o

Today has been another spend-free day!! Think it's 13 now although I did get a treat.
My mum and I went to a shop selling lots of xmas stuff and got 8 rolls of xmas paper, 90 xmas cards (40 for me), 200 sticky present labels (100 for me), and two gold gel ink pens. All for £3.95 and my mummy paid!!
    :D

Hope everyone is having a lovely day.
    Hugs.
