MrsGSR and Calling14 thanks muchly for the tips - I think I will try the wella stuff as that's well(a) cheap and like you, Calling14 I just used to order the Aveda be curly stuff without thinking (mmm that smell) and then the Bumble and bumble serum (£21!!!) and surf spray too, because, well, just because... Eeek. I am currently on two mahoosive bottles of Treseme shampoo and conditioners that I got very cheap at the supermarket, which is pretty good for the price :) but I need something on top to prevent the "Keith Minchin" look (that made me chuckle MrsGSR thank you!)

Sorry to hear things are not going well stewby and cottage retreatist what rotten luck about OH's contract.. hoping you both get some positive vibes soon from somewhere.

We FINALLY managed our first NSD of the month :T mainly because I worked from home and OH was sent home at lunchtime due to the wind blowing things off his office building! In less good news, my MSE slippers got wet whilst I was cleaning the bathroom on my lunch break and all my carefully applied duct tape holding them together came off - Nooooo! I might have to splash out on a new pair now as I am going to be paying more in tape mending these ones. At least I tried I suppose.

Hope everyone is staying safe in the cold and wind...

stewby and cottage retreatist - sorry to hear your bad news, hope good things are round the corner for you.

Had a good day in total - it was a spend day as went to toddler group and paid for my veg box. Managed to save £25 per month on mobile phone bill as contract had come to an end so went for Sim only deal. V pleased as I hate trying to negotiate lower deals.

Also found I've been over paying ds beavers subscription. I did it on a direct debit and it's been going out every month rather than every quarter (I thought it was a bit pricey!), so I'll cancel that so will have saved £47.50 in total every month! Not bad! And need to talk to Beaver leader about refund of overpayment. Might just set up a direct debit payment for this amount into savings account. :j

Got a little bit muddled about budgets today and worked out we have about £300 left for rest of month for everything, including food, and got a bit worried, then realised that our WTC payment hasn't gone in yet - phew!

Also got to buy some Christmas presents - haven't got any yet!:D

    Hello everybodeee! :santa2:
I've been off the radar over the last few days what with work and this n that but I've been keeping a beady eye on all your posts

Kat had you bought a £1500 mac book I might have given you a telling off but I shall let you off after your relatively smaller TK Maxx spend ;)

Stewby Your hidden combat euro cash stash story made me laugh and reminded me of the time I hid £200 in the sandwich toaster for safe keeping only to switch it on 6 months later to the smell of burning bunce! Luckily the bank saw the funny side of it and replaced the damaged notes :T

I have 2 SFDs and 2 spend days to report. Yesterday I spent a few bob on goodies for this coming weekend's trip home for fake christmas and I also spent £56 on a haircut, inclusive of 25% discount! Today's unfortunate spend was on Zovirax due to the revenge of the christmas lurg  , probably stress induced after parting with my cash at the hairdressers :rotfl:She did a good job though and my locks should be okay until March next year..

My overdraft currently sits at £326 and that's without the £100 fuel to travel home, money spent while at home, £100 on christmas gifts, road tax and miscellany :( Since I am going to go over my 0% interest £500 overdraft, I am actually considering paying off the loan completely using the £1500 overdraft limit to my advantage  Other than paying a £15 interest charge for the £1000 beyond the £500, it means that I will have just the one debt instead of 2. And on pay day in 18 days time there will be no personal loan deduction and a good chunk of the overdraft will be cleared from my overtime pay out.. Having said that, if things go pear shaped due to unexpected costs, I will have no financial room to manouvre.. Hmm.. I shall mull that one over.. Over a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie perhaps.. :xmassmile

Ooh I love this thread I do! And mulled wine with mince pies!

    Chin chin all! :xmassign:

  • in other news one of the kidlets today decided to eat one of the googley eyes i bought yesterday ... brilliant. what a way to bring this week towards a close! ><
  • Sorry to hear your bad news Stewby and Cottage Retreatist.
Fingers crossed things pick up soon.

I should have had a SFD but went to get some clothes for a family member and ended up buying some Christmas tree decorations... Ba humbug!! So I'm still only on 2 SFDs. Tomorrow will have to be SF as Saturday iwon't be.

I'm starting to like my notebook, very satisfying writing stuff down. Feels like I've accomplished something even if its just words on a page. Storm here tonight with "stay indoors" warnings so I'm going to heed the warning and crawl into bed :rotfl:
Finally had my eyes opened and I am ready to tackle my debts!

    Action so far to report:
    2) Another NSD - probably the last one this week though as I'm taking a half day to go Xmas shopping with OH as he's off tomorrow. But, in accordance with instructions from Kat for this challenge and restrictions of the budgetary kind (item 4) I have got my Xmas money in my purse (in its requisite envelope of course) and will leave debit card at home. Personal challenge to get what I need with what I have!
    5) Envelopes are now fully in place and accounted for. I often use this method and had coloured envelopes at the ready, great to have the excuse this time around!
    7) Food bank task not yet done but have been organising Surviving Christmas box indoors for OH to take in to his work where they are collecting them. Is this a suitable alternative as I don't tend to get to the supermarket much?
    9) Goals for 2014 are now ready to roll:

    #1) Overpay £3,000 to mortgage in 2014
#2) Keep weekends work free (thanks to MountainGirl for motivation, inspiration and moral support there)
#3) Eat 2 x pieces of fruit each day
#4) Spend more time with my mum
#5) Get back to doing yoga at lunchtimes when body permits

    10) Debt Free Date = mortgage free date. Aiming for 2 years ahead by the end of this year and 4 years ahead as long-term goal. Which makes MF date of November 2020 (at the latest).

:)Hope everyone's OK and not struggling too much with these storms. Hugs to those who need them.

    Evening all,

Hope everyone can find some positives in their day.

stewby when my budgets disappeared last month, due to my calculation error, I set new ones to stick to. I knew that if I didn't I would end up spending loads as I always have the mentality of once I've fallen off the bandwagon I might as well be well and truly off! How about working out what is the minimum you can survive off until payday, negotiate with dad and then stick to the new budget?

SFD number 3 for me although my fence has fallen down so need to figure out who owns that boundary!

However I did earn £30 tutoring which has been split between ccard debt and tax savings account.

I have my work Xmas do tomo so won't check in but it will def be a spend day.

    Have a great night all
