MrsGSR and Calling14 thanks muchly for the tips - I think I will try the wella stuff as that's well(a) cheap and like you, Calling14 I just used to order the Aveda be curly stuff without thinking (mmm that smell) and then the Bumble and bumble serum (£21!!!) and surf spray too, because, well, just because... Eeek. I am currently on two mahoosive bottles of Treseme shampoo and conditioners that I got very cheap at the supermarket, which is pretty good for the price :) but I need something on top to prevent the "Keith Minchin" look (that made me chuckle MrsGSR thank you!)

Sorry to hear things are not going well stewby and cottage retreatist what rotten luck about OH's contract.. hoping you both get some positive vibes soon from somewhere.

We FINALLY managed our first NSD of the month :T mainly because I worked from home and OH was sent home at lunchtime due to the wind blowing things off his office building! In less good news, my MSE slippers got wet whilst I was cleaning the bathroom on my lunch break and all my carefully applied duct tape holding them together came off - Nooooo! I might have to splash out on a new pair now as I am going to be paying more in tape mending these ones. At least I tried I suppose.

Hope everyone is staying safe in the cold and wind...

I meant Tim Minchin doh! I usually say I look like that Australian comdedian who looks like he love child of bill bailey and eddie izzard.

Sorry to hear your news Stewby and Cottage Retreatist, really rotten timing, I hope things start looking up for.

So yesterday was a spend day as DH went shopping, thanks to our savers card with £35 on it we only needed to pay £25 towards our shopping, we are slightly out of pocket though as he got stuff for my mum and brother for Christmas and they didn't give us enough money so we had to pay for it out of our pocket so we are £30 down at the moment. I know mum will give me the money when she is next round but when DH dropped the stuff round to my brother and said he was £15 short he didn't respond. I wasn't happy cos that's our food shopping money! Anyway, DH as always did a great job with the shopping and we now a fully stocked up so apart from a few Christmas bits and fresh foods we shouldn't need much else.

As DD has chicken pox today most certainly will be a SFD and so will tomorrow and Sunday cos DH is away tomorrow so won't be going anywhere.
I'm feeling completely shattered because I didn't get a nap yesterday due to DD being so manic! Still DH is off tomorrow so should get a lie in whoop!

Just a short report in. Should an SFD today. Will do a smallish shop tomorrow which will only have to last till Thursday when I go home for a week and OH can fend for himself ;)

Will go to a puppet show with DS and some friends tomorrow, budgeted and already paid for. Afterwards there is a christmas market (max £5). Will also have a girl's night Sat night but will just get a bottle of lemonade with my grocery shop. I've not seen anyone in moooonths. So tomorrow will be my time to catch up and reconnect esp with the friend I might ask to be my bridesmaid. I won't be going to the works christmas night out tonight though and the department night out is off too. So two cancelled.

Cottage Retreatist sorry to hear your news hope things pick up in the new year. Stewby onwards and upwards.

Today have been bad, work in a small town and as my daughter for a change is working locally we met for coffee and a pannini. Gingerbread latte and cream was divine oops. We don't meet up that often and she is off in Jan working abroad for a yr so make the most of time if we can catch up. So naughty 7 pounds spent today so far. Need milk on way home as well. Tomorrow will be a SFD brownies honour ;-(

  • Hello Everybody...

So - with work now pushed to one side momentarily I can jump in here and say howdly doodly! Spend day again for me - hummmph! Need to change this soon otherwise it will be a NO SFD month... food buying today as I am out of vegetables, a small foody gift for a girlfriend who I see every Saturday and I am off to TK MAXX again as Mumsy wants the Pj bottoms I bought.."matchy matchy Mummy"...:rotfl:

Apart from that life is dull for me HOWEVER I have seen some people are sinking fast. Cottage_Retreatist - have you spoken to hubby about how he feels in order to gauge any possible "impulse behaviour" and iron it out before it happens? What are you doing about Christmas.. is it going ahead or shall it be reigned in a little..? I am a firm believer that things happen for a reason - something bigger and better might be around the corner.

    Stewby
    - time to scrape back what we can. Like you said it's only the 5th so there is plenty of time to create a "new" challenge for yourself and make it happen. It's also time where you can sink into debt and spend on your CC and we would like to avoid that wouldn't we... You are amoung friends, we all have our slip up's so don't leave us.. hang about and we can help you!!!

My shampoo bottles are 1000ml not 2000ml. Gutted. :p

Mascara beats eyelash dying hands down - although I used to do both now and then. Can't remember who asked but I am not sure I trust myself not to render myself blind with the solution and I still can't justify going to a beautician just yet.............................. despite how much people tell me I need it.....:(

I am not sure I have my head around the "month ahead" challenge. Abundant explain it again...? Or hang on I will find the post.... then I shall comment...:rotfl:

So I have two more OT shifts this weekend which means no spending and possibly minimal check in until the wee small hours... Saturday night, Sunday evening and then an early start on Monday means early to bed tonight....

A friend is taking his 4yr old and 8 yr old to Lapland on Sunday. It's a one day trip. It will be a LOOOONG day and cost £1000 or thereabouts. If you had the chance would you..? Discuss...?

  • Afternoon! count me in again this month. I am such a lurker, I read posts constantly but rarely post. I will force myself to post more as it does motivate you when you've written it down for the world to see! lol.

Got to have a proper sit down later and work everything out as OH gets paid early this month (a whole 8 days early) so I need to budget so we don't touch it! Christmas presents are all wrapped and now just need to buy for 2 more people...my grandparents! the hardest of them all. Nearly all of DD's presents have been bought with Amazon vouchers and OH's were nectar points so not much cash has been used thankfully!

    Enjoy your evenings all! xx

Goals: Save £500 for emergencies, Save £200 of Amazon vouchers for Xmas, fix my holey clothes!

  • hey NSK - no such luck - he handed in his resignation today so we will have 2 weeks less income than it should have been.

He only found out yesterday - I did try and get him to not do anything rash but that's not in his nature!!!

In terms of Xmas - all pressies are already bought and no major plans so we're ok there. The only thing is - do I continue to put all our excess this month to debt paying or hide it as contingency?

My heart says one thing and my head says another. I also believe in things happening for a reason but just wish it hasn't happened right now :(

Oh no. Men!! Is it not worse to hand in your notice than just wait for the contract to end naturally in terms of benefits or redundancy etc? Sorry, I know it's done. I really really hope that sth comes up very soon. Got my fingers and toes crossed.

Could you do both, pay off some debt but keep a bit for contingency and if you don't need it you can still put it towards debt.

  • Money needs to be stashed now as a contingency. You don't know how long he will be out of work .. It's not nice to hear but you need to plan. I have every faith in a new year bringing new promises and if he pushes himself out there I think he will find somewhere very quickly - if he is as head strong as you say perhaps he has out-grown that company who don't appreciate him and he needs to expand himself a bit more....

Don't worry CR... I have every faith in life panning out for you...

I am leaving work but will check in later...

I always wanted a small wedding especially since OH wasn't too keen anyway. Whereas now that he finally proposed he wants to do it "proper" :rotfl: with 60 people for dinner and a total of 110 at night .

Congratulations! :) That's a great budget for that number of people, we're really struggling to get it down from where we are - mainly due to venue food costs and drink! We wanted a venue that would do most stuff for us as I won't have the time to deal with minutiae, and also free range meat etc which does up costs... Still, could be worse, and we've saved a bit on some stuff- a lovely friend is making our cake for a wedding present, and considering how mad the cost of wedding cakes is that's great!! I hear the average is something utterly bonkers like 20k. Not that our 10k on one day is sensible :o
We wanted small too but OH has a large family so 68 for the main bit and about another 20 in the evening is as 'small' as we can get it at the moment - doesn't help that OH is one of 6!
