Debt Destruction December!!!

  • Morning all - thank you for all your hugs. And for your support. We are both feeling a bit better this morning and less down -me - I'm more ready for action stations to prepare us for the oncoming storm, I think he'll need today to bring himself into the mindset to start moving forward. But we will do it! All money will be stashed from the last paycheck and we are going to cut down on EVERYTHING!!

Siouxsie32 - most of the xmas pressies are small and homemade so the cost of them is actually under 50 quid for all the family (I got them all on offer!!!) so prefer not to return them. But I will be making sure we don't do any silly te8co splurges on alcohol or anything closer to the time!

My only test will be keeping him from spending when he's depressed because by saying no it creates tension (been here before) - but here comes tough C-R - not doing it because i want to, but because I have to.

We're going to put up the xmas tree today (get it all out the cupboard) so maybe that will lift out mood - though its kinda lost its shine now really :(

Hope everyone has a better weekend? and nooo - don't eat the bread!!!! :):):)

    Debt-free and Proud!
Oops, I've picked the mould off bread before, won't do it again!
Today is another SFD but I have to get my DD some stuff for her chicken pox so that doesn't count right?
A long and lonely weekend beckons, DH is away for the night and won't be back till midday tomorrow and I am pretty much stuck in, DD is still coming out with spots so still infectious. On the upside it means I'm not out spending money!

  • Morning all! What a lovely day it is today - no wind, no rain, mild climate. It's almost not winter at all!

So another spend day for me yesterday which is never good. TK MAXX pyjama bottoms for Mum and friend - they are amazing so I had to share the amazing-ness. With a lovel bar of soap and a candle for said friend my CC is now sat at £180.76. I know I can afford it now and the things I bought were essentials or for gifts but IT HAS TO STOP NOW! TO say my mental state has relaxed is an understatement.

However the girlfriend in question has been so important to my sanity at the weekends over the last year ( her and her husband ) that I couldn't overlook her birthday again and wanted to treat her a little. Especially as she is preggars and her husband is in the Philippines assisting with aid work! Although they are soon to be informed Christmas presents aren't coming this year...:rotfl:

Speaking of the Philippines... no brown envelope yet and it's been two weeks - which makes me think the speed camera I was flashed at was faulty....:j:j:j:j..so the donation might go elsewhere now although something tells me to wait one more week "just to be sure"!

So I bought no food an am going to work my way through what I have as I go home in 9 days and there is no point having fresh stuff left in the house. So grilled veg (pepper / courgette / broccoli / cauliflower ), sweet potato chips and brown rice makes three meals.. forgot to grill some onion which annoys me.. but I shall create an almond milk / chia seed and banana smoothie for tonights shift as I am never hungry at night... and the same for tomorrow's late shift with popcorn made at home with nuts and figs. Back to my healthy self I think. It's amazing how feeling ill just sees me reaching for chips...:p

So CR don't worry about hogging the thread. This is what we are hear for and I would rather you hung out here and told us your woes that disappeared. Same goes for you Stewby!

CR I thought of what you said about you gifts and I saw something on FB that said this "What if we all bought our Christmas gifts from local businesses, craft fairs, people who made their own trinkets, the local bakery etc instead of big conglomerates"...imagine eh?

SO my cooking is done.. I am tired again (only got up at 1130) and am trying to figure out the logistics of seeing my friend, getting a nap in and heading to my night shift. Think I will sleep now and see her en route to work....

Lots of things running through my head to plan for the New Year.. I always have to get my mind in order before the clock strikes midnight so I know my goals for the year. My 5 goals might be re-jigged a little but they shall be printed again for all to see don't worry...

I will be checking in from work later tonight. Have a restful day all!

    Onwards and Upwards...

P.S.. COunting 2 SFD's for the days I was on my course. It wasn't my money I spent....:rotfl:

Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".
  • I've not been on here for a couple of days as I've had a horrible chest infection.
Great way of not spending any money though.
I've got to nip out to the local shop and get the cat some food and I need some tea bags as well. I thought I'd got enough cat food in but he ended up having half a tin of salmon cos I felt too ill to go out. Hope he doesn't think this is his new cat food.
Will be using my Co-op vouchers to pay for what I need but I count these as part of my food budget.
I'm up to 5 NSD now so feel I'm doing okay.
Hope the bad weather missed you all. My son lives in Great Yarmouth and he ended up being evacuated but everything's Ok there now.
    Have a lovely weekend.

Really sorry to hear about the rubbish time you guys are having of it, cottage_retreatist - fingers crossed that things improve and good luck. Trying to manage someone else's behaviour in response to events is an impossible situation (managing your own is hard enough!) so I hope it all goes okay.

I have had a really spend couple of days :( Visited a friend, which was good but cost more than I hoped, because the train company wouldn't let me buy a ticket online the night before (a cynic would think it was just so they could charge me an extra £10 the next day, but who would be that cynical? Not I, obviously!). Friend supplied food during my visit but I'm really ashamed to admit to have fallen prey to the train station M&S when I got back to town  On the upside, I do have some lovely juice... :o

Then today I bought some reduced Christmas lights in Sainsbury's, because I decided I wanted to make my flat a bit Christmassy and welcoming. I went in just to buy the lights and I came out with just the lights, so mission accomplished! This afternoon, though, whilst cleaning, I discovered the slightly damp patch I was aware of has got worse :( So after a fair amount of research I've done something I was thinking about for a while, and bought a dehumidifier. I bought online with John Lewis, and am collecting it in store tomorrow. It has gone onto CC, purely for the payment protection aspect - I'll transfer the cash for it directly to the card. Annoyed at having to spend £130, but also know it's worth it to limit future problems. *and breathe*

Tomorrow is a definite NSD, need to get a few in this week to mitigate the last couple of days!

    Evening,

Today and yesterday were spend days. Had a Christmas do yesterday but drank too much so stayed in bed today. Unfortunately, this meant I didn't do the food shopping so gave OH money for a takeaway (I can't face food today :( ).

On a positive, I've got a second tutoring job :) Problem is that it starts tomorrow so I need to get rid of my hangover asap and do some preparation tomorrow morning.

Oh no, sorry to hear about everyone who is having it tough at the moment - esp CottageRetreatist hope you and OH are both feeling a bit better about things today...

Had a bit of spend yesterday as went round to work colleagues for Xmas dinner and drinks so bought her a thank you present for £4. I also owe another friend £6 for taxi at the end of the night. It was a lovely night for a tenner though and well worth it.

To my shame, whilst in Sainsbobs buying the present, I noticed it was 20% off all clothes and there were two nice dresses in the sale which I ended up buying... one for work (as I am getting to fat for my standard black work dress) and one for my nephew's christening which is coming up. I did get them for about £10 each and they were both £40 to start with so not too bad, but feeling guilty about the spend. It's been the first impulse and 'selfish' spend I have had since LBM in Aug.

NSD today, and hopefully tomorrow too..

Hugs to those that need it
