  • Hi all,
Today was a spend day as planned so I'm still on 3 in total. Hope to do better with a SFD tomorrow. I got a thermos cup I've wanted a long time which was on a great offer so now I will be able to bring my coffee fix with me. So sort of MSE... Apart from the spend that is!

Great to hear your battling spirit C-R, keep at it and come on here to share.
Finally had my eyes opened and I am ready to tackle my debts!

    Hi everyone!

Wishing lots of luck and hugs to everyone that needs it :) I had the Virgin Tv stuff sorted out without incident today. It was actually quite funny-the engineer used to go to school with my son :D They had a laugh and a joke and a catch up. I had a no spend day :D
On Thursday I had my performance review at work and my manager asked if I had considered doing fulltime. I work 25hrs at the moment. The youngest would need to go to breakfast and afterschool club, but we will be marginally better off. He will not need so much childcare for long and it does work out an extra two hours a day, so not a huge jump, but welcome extra pennies.

Tomorrow should be a NSD. I will do my best not to spend a bean until Friday on my daughters birthday. Hopefully this has not jinxed something else to be fixed/replaced  Good luck everyone and keep up the good work :T

I thought it was deliberate! Like a cross between Keith Lemon and Tim Minchin LOL! Either way, that's what I look like without hair products... :rotfl:

  • Good evening one and all,

Haven't checked in for a few days as I've been on 11hr days :o it's all I can do when I get home to eat my dinner before I fall asleep in it!!

That said the gods of finance have finally smiled on me, my PPI finally came in, £1200!!! So £200 went on a tumble dryer and the rest off the Halifax credit card :D

Now I know the dryer isn't very MSE but I seem to constantly have all my washing festooned on the radiators. It's no use though coz when I'm on the long shifts the heating is off so the washing stays stale and damp. The first day it arrived I washed and dried all my towels and bedding and it was heavenly :T:T:T

I read through the posts earlier on in the day while my brain was still functioning but can't remember who I wanted to give a shout out to..... so hugs and high fives to all that want and/or need them :D:D

    SFD…………….………….5/15
    Food........................£77/£150
    Petrol.......................£50/£160
    Entertainment...........£150/£200
    Food Bank………...…..£4.66/£5
    Invitations refused..…2/1
    Lunch to Work…….….3/13

My budgets are looking pretty decimated and if it was a normal month I wouldn't worry too much coz we'd just hang in and get through it but we have two weeks off this month and I know the OH will want to travel and see friends which will cost money, and this is before Christmas kicks in :o

Baa humbug......I wish it was over already

Going to bed now and hopefully I'll get out the right side tomorrow.

Yikes as predicted an expensive spendy day...... hairdressers, trip to wilk0s for christmas tree (a luxury i know but i LOVE real trees), new pyjama bottoms and slippers in t3sco, few bits from p0undshop and a meal out ....

A week into the challenge so I've updated my budget categories....not going to be an easy month....but hopefully budgets can be balanced by underspending on some categories to balance out any overspends.

Food £61.11/£120 (includes £5.25 for foodbank)
Transport £8.25/£100 (bought a round of drinks in payment for a lift, much cheaper than a taxi)
Clothes £16/£70 (new slippers and pyjamas from t3sco)
    Hairdressers £38/£35
Entertainment £23/£30 (messed up my budgeting - might need to set a revised budget for this month as still few commitments)
Christmas £40.43/£60 (only 2 presents left to get - might be slightly over budget but hoping to keep to £75)
    Miscellaneous £1/£10 (cleaning product)

Pleased with what I managed to get for the foodbank though. £5.25 bought rice, pasta, jar of tomato sauce, cans of spaghetti, baked beans, soup, carrots, potatoes, peas, mandarins, rice pudding, cornflakes, UHT milk, can of chicken curry, can of chilli con carne, can of stew and box of teabags...

....but feeling guilty as i spent £5.95 on a dessert tonight

    SFD 5/15
    Lunch to work 5/13

    Food £61.11/£120 (including foodbank donation)
    Foodbank £5.25/£5

I've used both the serums from boots, both under £3, you only need a small amount and they work very well!

siouxsie, sorry but being a biologist i would advice against scraping mold of bread and then eating it as you don't know how far inside it's grown. The only foods where this is safe to do are a lump of hard cheese like cheddar and hard fruit and veg like carrots. The rest is unsafe and not worth the health risk for a few pennies saved.

Noted! I bought a new loaf today - cost 80p. Used 75p wombled voucher so only cost me 5p :) Then, when I left the supermarket, I found another voucher for 35p :rotfl: Fresh bread and free money :T

Has anyone ever been to a police repossession auction? There's one tomorrow in London where they have laptops and MacBooks - was thinking of giving it a go. If that doesn't work though I'm definitely heading straight to the Apple Store - my computer caused me to cancel a whole morning's work today cos it took over two hours to start up. I'm done with it, we've now fallen out and I'm ready to spend the big bucks (on an interest free cashback credit card, naturally!)

So... rough day at work again. Some people are just out to make others feel bad. boo hiss.
    :(

However I have done several good things:

    * Spend-free day number 3 achieved.
    * I spoke to one of my senior nurses about the fact I have not been paid for any of my extra shifts since I started.
    * I wasn't going to, but I put in for the extra two hours I worked yesterday.
    :D

So, I have decided (after the drama today) that I am going to focus on the positives.
    :)

oh yeah, the very nice roofer man came yesterday (whilst we were all out) and fixed my roof. Just waiting on the bill. (I imagine it will come in the post or something).
    :undecided

In the meantime... on another positive note... I am watching ghostbusters 2. Love this movie.

  • Siouxsie how did you hear about this and PLEASE tell me how it goes!!!

I would be VERY interested in this!!
“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".
