Ah, the wedding was planned and venue (most expensive bit) booked before LBM. It's not completely crazy, as we are making some concessions to budget (!) - we're getting married mid-week and keeping it to close friends and family, but the venue is pricey and OH has a large family! We're getting married next August, a date which was chosen on the grounds that it would give us ages to save, only we were very bad about it to start with. :o So we don't have much wiggle room, sadly.

Though I do wonder if paying 4k off a credit card, then paying for stuff with that would be better? It would reduce the interest vastly, evenif only for a few months, and in theory then over the next 18 months the same amount of cash would have to be found but would be going to different places... I may have to work it all out (in a spreadsheet!), and see if the penalty for early withdrawal of funds from the ISA will be less than the saving on interest. Suspect it would be....

    Thanks for the idea! :D

We're getting married next year too (Sat Sept 20th, our 10 year anniversary  and :T). I always wanted a small wedding especially since OH wasn't too keen anyway. Whereas now that he finally proposed he wants to do it "proper" :rotfl: with 60 people for dinner and a total of 110 at night . No idea how I am meant to speak to everybody while taking care of my parents and aunt and friend that don't speak much english. But hey ho, we found a compromise and I am getting really excited now. All in (incl. dress, rings, busses, rooms, venue etc) we aim for £8000, but realistically we'll only be able to save 6-7k as I will be on maternity leave from March (unless I don't put money away for next christmas and the MOT, but then that would need to go on a CC.

    Morning!
Yesterday was another NSD taking me to 3. DD has chicken pox so no school so I would imagine a few more NSDs, luckily she's not too bad with it and only has a few spots, so hopefully will be ok next week but we'll see.
DH is going shopping later today so technically today will not be an NSD because it's my money that pays for the shopping!
Moved money around accounts yesterday so the JA has £140 after bills! Whoop! Which is a start. I've made another payment to CC2 and I'm thinking it I keep making those little payments that can only add up.
Was planning to take DD to the shops to do the food bank shop as part of the kindness elf thing (like elf on the shelf but instead of watching over and being naughty this one suggests acts of kindness) but think that's out for the next few days!

Not holding out a lot of hope, been living on my own nearly 5 yrs has to be exceptional to fit into my world now:rotfl:

TiptoesDB serum frizz ease is too expensive for me, got lots of curly hair and would need heaps. Find that home bargains has ace Wella products which work the same, usually about 1.99 got Wella leave in conditioner, hair thickening spray not that I need that but gives lovely curls. Top tip if I am going out somewhere hot, tend to leave some normal conditioner in my hair before styling it, stops frizz and curls are ace. From someone who lived on Aveda Be Curly stuff at 17.50 a throw oh how I have changed. Still love the smell of the stuff and a weakness for me.:o

Sfd are really not happening this month so rubbish, today will be. :T

Off this afternoon but clean house, and pick up all the rubbish in the garden following gales this morning.

Lots of food in, so no food needed.

    HI all

Still plodding on with this challenge and getting there. I think early in the week are my best days for NSD's as towards the end of the week things seem to get a bit more social.

Have achieved my turning down of one social event by declining lunch out today - needs must and it's helped keep my spending for the week hopefully within the limit. Really need to keep control of this over the Christmas period as have had a very expensice CC bill this month which although is paid off we need to try and make sure we don't keep spending at the same rate. In my defence though the majority of our Christmas present shopping was on there..... but then we had to replace the washing machine!!

    Well, it's official.

December hates me and we are well on to damage limitation.
    :(

All my money that I gave my Dad is gone. I have spent an extra £50 on to my credit card for more fuel (had to give OH a lift into town as the bus was stuck due to fallen trees)... and to top it all off, the storms have damaged my roof so I have to get that fixed.

This month has been a complete disaster and it's only the 5th.

  • Hi everyone!

December hates me too! OH got told his contract will not be renewed today-so we lose his income mid-Jan until he gets another (can't see him getting an overlap-not this close to Xmas) so battening down to hatches into survival mode :(

Did manage a NSD today though

Hope everyone else is having a better day

    Ok, here we go..

15 SFD's only - yep can work with that. Done 2 up to now 3rd and 4th December.

Food budget £300 (to include some alcohol but avoiding things we won't use). There will only be the 3 of us so no need to go mad!

“Spend” Money - currently being finalised.

Money for month is allocated as follows - monthly wages to pay direct debits. Weekly tax credits and contribution from OH for everything else. I have online pots for things like car, house, vets, birthday/christmas, holiday, savings (nothing in that one) etc. Will allocate cash to envelopes as it comes in.

Already dropped 3 Christmas outings/parties due to forthcoming OP on Monday. Saving approx £80 :)

£5 for food bank - will do this tomorrow along with the £3 from last month which I never got around to.

Batch cooking is usual for me know, I often double up meals and freeze a portion or two or save some for later in the week.

Already bought Christmas biscuits i'm afraid! Its tradition here to open them when we put the tree up :) Have avoided buying 2 tins of chocolates for a tenner though. Hoping for a 1 for £4 or £5 offer!

Got a notebook. Not finailised my list yet but am recording spends/menus. Will update more soon.

At the moment while I am technically debt free as I have a savings pot which I don't touch, my accessible saving pot has depleted over the past couple of years and I also have a few hundred on my credit card. This means I am spending more than I can afford and need to get a grip. I have learned a lot this year but have also had some big bills including almost £500 vets bills and almost £1500 on the car. I plan to have credit card paid off by easter and either be not using it or putting money to one side as I use it. As it is, I pay most of it off but then there it is again. Going back to abundant's idea of being a month in front this will be my aim for the end of the year and if possible I would like to start building my savings back up to where they were. I will be realistic and set this goal as the end of 2015. I will be working out how best to go about this this month in readiness for the new year.

No costa etc - will do my best. Have taken work lunches at the start of this week but today treated myself to a cheese and coleslaw cob from the deli. Their coleslaw is to die for. I will not be back in work until 30th December having broken up today! OP on monday, 2 weeks sick and 3rd week either sick or leave depending on how I get on

Will avoid sales with the exception of cards and gifts for next year.

Will update signature later and fill you in on spends so far this month. Got to go and get ready as going out for a curry tonight with a good friend. She is picking me up at 6.30pm :)
