  • I have now requested a chargeback from my bank and I would suggest anyone else go to their bank/credit card company and report this as fraud. It should take 7-10 days. I am also going to pursue this as much as I can via CAB/Trading standards as this is clearly fraudulent.

I unfortunately ordered as well. Since then I have established that the company's registered address is their accountant. I rang them and spoke to a Mr Cork who says Vacuspares should not be trading as they are no longer in business. What they are doing is illegal.
When you contact the credit card company you must demand to be put through to the fraud department. Do not let them try and fob you off by claiming it is a transaction dispute. When the credit card company accept it is fraud they refund the money quicker and hopefully stop Vacuspares being able to draw down on other peoples credit cards in the future.
Can I ask what information you had to provide to the bank? Could you possibly provide the name of the accountant company? Did Mr Cork provide any evidence the company is no longer in operation? Unfortunately I paid by debit card :( but can still hopefully get onto the bank's fraud team and get my money back!!
    Thanks

I've spoken to CAB in Kent and they're passing my report to Trading Standards. Trading Standards I'm informed, will investigate. CAB can be reached on 0345-4040506.
I've spoken to Insolvency Service - there's no record of any insolvency proceedings re. Vacuspares.
Vacuspares' registered office is 2 The Links, Herne Bay, CT6 7GQ - write a letter complaining of breach of contract and demanding reinstatement to a pre-contract position. Send by recorded delivery and keep a copy.
I suggest anyone else scammed by these shysters do the same.

Thank you very much for this, will follow up.

When you raised the issue with your bank did they require any proof from you? Or was the fact the phone number doesn't work and that it's a different company taking the funds (Haeir Spares) which has a proposal to strike off against it enough? Just want my money back!!

You're welcome. People like these make my blood boil. I've wasted most of my working day doing leg work on this.

They did ask for written proof that Vacuspares is no longer trading. I gave them the information about the registered address and suggested they call them. I mentioned Haeir Spares and their status too. Like you I just want my money back.
  • As well as trading standards I recommend everybody takes the time to fill in the forms on this action fraud police site (unfortunately I cannot post the link but put action fraud police into google and it will come up)

Their registered office in Herme Bay is the address of their accountants McCabe Ford Williams and it was Mr Cork at that firm that told me that they should not be trading.
The director/owner of Vacuspares is Stephen Raine. His address is given as Sandy Hollow, 9 Holtwood Avenue, Aylesford Kent ME20 7QH. The phone number for this address is 01795 425065. This phone is not disconnected but nobody answers it.
    .
When I called the registered office I was told that Stephen Raine is out of country.

Ed. I'm considering giving BBC Watchdog a call.

I recommend a call to BBC Watchdog.
  • Looks like I've been had too....

I have authorised a payment for £349, but my bank won't stop it.
Seems like we're driving a car over a cliff, but rather than stop the car to avoid the catastrophe, my bank want to have the inevitable occur and arrange for an ambulance at the bottom.

I checked 'Stephen John Raine' on companycheck.co.uk

    He's got active directorships at:
    Commercial Cleaning and Catering Ltd
    123 Rentals
    Haier spares
    Great British Garden ltd
    Vacuspares

If you search on those companies you get a very similar site experience - with phones disconnected, or not answering.

I also searched for 'unit 10 glenmore centre' on google. It's currently to let - with a picture to prove the site is now vacant.

I am so frustrated that a company which has ceased trading is able to take my funds even though I no longer approve.
  • Like many others, I wish I'd looked at reviews before placing an order on 31 July. Credit card statement arrived a few days later and the £185 had been taken on 1 August. Sent an email and received a reply within 10 minutes saying order going out that week. 8 days later, no order so emailed again and within 7 minutes Steve rang to say he'd look into it and get back to me same day. Also rang my credit card company as by now I'd read the reviews. They sent a claim form and are investigating but apparently Vacuspares will have 60 days to respond! I will be credited by the credit card company (unless a miracle happens and the Dyson arrives, but it's hardly likely). I am furious that this company is taking payment immediately from so many people and not delivering the goods. Two further polite and reasonable enquiry emails have produced no reply. Definitely dodgy!
