  • :j despite my misgivings of 16th March I have in fact received a refund from vacuspares today of the full amount paid. So, although they failed to supply the goods, and took the money from my card before the goods were ready for despatch, they did at least refund my payment. Would still steer clear in future though.

Was going to place an order with this company, thanks for all the warnings.
  • Ordered on 27th Feb. They took the payment that day. Still not arrived today, 1st April, despite many promises that it is on its way, already with the courier though they can't provide me with a tracking number so I don't believe them. If it's not here by the end of tomorrow, I shall be trying for a refund. Very poor indeed.

I have just written the following to the owner:- The credit of £349 for the Miele vacuum cleaner that did not arrive has now reached my bank account. For this, thank you. But what a struggle all this has been. Part of your terms of business is that you take payment only when goods are in stock. For the goods to take more than a month not to be delivered cannot be explained by the ‘courier delays’ you gave as a reason. DPD are a reputable firm and would not let goods spend a month shuttling to and fro somewhere. Even though my order did not appear to be marked as a special order item, the ‘7-10 days’ stated for special orders were comfortably exceeded. Far more likely is that the goods didn’t exist in your stocks. Equally irritating were the promises of certain delivery days. On each occasion, nothing arrived. And I am not alone. A simple web search shows plenty of other instances of payment taken and goods never arriving. I should not have to threaten a small claims court process to get a refund. This should have been freely offered. You tell me it ‘has not been our finest hour’. There seem to be many of these.

This experience has been disturbing and salutary on several levels. It is one I shall not repeat.
  • Wish I had read this before making an online purchase of £299 for a Dyson vacuum cleaner. It would definitely avoided periods of angst and fear that I've been ripped off. Eight days since taking my money and no notification of dispatch received from vacuspares.co.uk. Have emailed them twice to enquire on status of this purchase and advised in the first instance that it would be dispatched towards the end of the week preceding Easter. Easter has been and gone so sent second email today. Advised "bit behind because of Easter ...will be with you this week, we will mail you the day before delivery." I wait with baited breath. Failing that it's down to legal remedy.
  • Try the Small Claims Service Online. It's a Government initiative and can easily be Googled.

It takes a few minutes to input the details and costs £25 which you can claim back with the total amount claimed. I have found it quick, efficient and has always worked for me. With Vacuspares, just the mention of it made things happen.

You will get your money back - either from Vacuspares or via Small Claims Online - but it really is a hassle and worry one can do without.
  • Many thanks for the very useful advice. Just kicked off the process but if looks as if there's a 30 day waiting process before I can pursue the matter using Consumer Protection (Distance Selling Regulations) 2000 and breach of contract issues. Will update as thing progress.
  • If you tell Steve this is what you're doing, it might precipitate him into action. In my case, it achieved another promised delivery date which didn't happen, so I gave him until 18.00 on a certain day for the goods to arrive at which point I told him I would initiate a claim. The refund was immediate.

You and I may have been unlucky - as may all those who wrote above - and Steve's courier firm may be deficient and he may have taken payment as the goods were in his possession yet somehow never reached us - but I wonder...
